Hand Ejector Target Rear Sight
Gentlemen,
Does anyone make an adjustable rear sight that's more or less a copy of the original Target Model rear sight? (Specifically for an N frame.)

By original I presume you mean pre war, but there is the 'one screw' and the improved 'two screw'.
Custom pistol smith, David Clements, makes an excellent reproduction but they're not always in inventory. Contact him.

Is it still about $100? You'd pay at least that and likely a lot more for an original.

The cost in things like this is in the set up, and since I am sure not many are sold, well you get the idea... "Cheap is not good, and good is not cheap". I can't remember who coined the phrase, but it is for the most part true.

I don't even see them on his website. I would also consider modifying a modern sight to resemble the pre-war sights. Has anyone done this?

I replaced the front and rear sight on a K38, early post war, 1951ish, a few years ago, and there was sticker shock for that. I found originals from a contact in California, and they were CA prices.

Likely from George Dye ( [email protected]), or Don Mundell ( [email protected])----and it's Patridge, named after its designer. You will need to specify a width (.100"-.125")--a matter of personal preference, and a height----a matter of caliber---for the most part.
And speaking of sticker shock, the last (pre-war) rear blade (ONLY) I bought was $50. Now I don't suffer from sticker shock---only from being damn glad I could find one. If you're inclined to suffer from sticker shock, your mental health will be improved with a different avocation.

Given that you have a pre-war gun you're trying finish/make complete, you have the option of fitting a post-war sight to it. The only sticker shock there will arise from the machining necessary to fit the new to the old. The end result will be a superior firearm. The bad news is it's value as a collectible (if any) will be gone.

I contacted David several years ago trying to find a reproduction S&W target rear sight, and he said essentially that he doesn't do S&W work anymore, only Ruger. That ship has sailed.

No he doesn't work on Smiths any longer, but he makes the sights for custom installation on Vaqueros and other models.

Right, for custom installation on Rugers, not S&W. Not for sale by themselves, as far as I know. Maybe if you're Somebody, but not to a Nobody like me.

When they're listed in his parts for sale section he apparently has a new inventory. When they're not he must be low on inventory and preserving what's left for his use on his custom installations.
