Welcome to the forum. Yes, we will definitely need the serial number, and we can make a pretty close estimate. You might want to post in the 1961-1980 area, as it is most likely to be from that era.
If you can open up the yoke/cylinder and look at the part of the frame that was uncovered when you did so, you may see stamped in that area something like "MOD 28-2" or something like that.

Alright thank you. It looks like s11117s. Also 27250. Don't really know which one you need. Thanks again.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Look on the metal grip frame bottom. Take off the grips if it is covered by them. Give us that number including any alpha prefix (S, N). Also, post pictures of the gun from all sides and we can possibly tell you more about it.

I took the grip off and the bottom numbers are s111178. So I'm guessing that other number I gave in the other reply was actually s111178 as well. 8 looked like an s. I'll try and take pictures.

I have 175xxx which was lettered at Jan 1958. Yours would probably a 1957 gun.

Welcome! S111178 puts your .357 as a 1954 or first year production Highway Patrolman. The 27250 is a factory internal code called an assembly number; it was stamped on the major parts early in production so they could be put back together at the end of the process.
Here is a good post for ID information:

Hope this is helpful (and we like photos ).

I hate to tell you this but if it was made in the 50s it is not an antique! But I too was made in the 50s and most days I feel like an antique!! Never mind!!!!

The closest SN on my list to S111178 is S110605 which shipped in 6/54. I also list two others with SNs only a little further away, one shipped in 5/54, the other also shipped in 6/54. Pretty safe bet yours shipped around the same time.
