Welcome to the forum.

Didn't give us much to go on, most models have their own serial # range that duplicates other models.

It has to be a 6 shot K frame 38 Spl M&P Model of 1905 - 4th Change from about the mid 1930's if the # has no preceding letters to the butt serial #.

However, if the ? does not represent a 6th digit and the # came from the butt of the grip frame:

It can be a 5 shot .38 S&W Terrier post war Transitional I frame which only has a 5 digit #. It shipped in very late 1950 or early 1951.

It could also be a 38 Spl Chiefs Special Model of 1953 New J frame shipped in early 1955.

If it is a K frame with serial number 57736 (five digits), it would be from 1903-04, so much too early to have a 2" barrel. Even if it is six digits (57736x), it would be from the 1920s and a 2" barrel is highly unlikely.

I'm wondering if 57736 is from the yoke and yoke cut. If so, we don't know the serial number.

The bottom line is we really have no idea what revolver is being described here.

We can help if you give us more information.

We really need the serial number off the bottom of grip frame. Any letters that proceed the numbers are important. Often times people assume numbers stamped in yoke cut or other locations are serial number and there is a real possibility they are assembly numbers and NOT serial number.

How many chambers does the gun have. 5 or 6. The smaller I and J framed guns have 5 in 38 calibers and the others models 6.

Just what does it say on the barrel in the way of caliber. A 38 S&W is different than a 38 special.

Pictures are always good.
