Default I made some drawings of Victory Models....

This year I have really been struggling with health issues. I'm 46 and have lyme disease along with other problems caused by the lyme.

Point being, it has zapped my strength and there are times where I'm just downright beat and downtrodden. So one of the things I started to do is draw to take my mind off of it. As I'm plopped down on the couch I grab my el cheapo mechanical pencil and started going to town.

These are my first 2 tries at it. I would like to do a 1917 and if I have the strength, continue to get better at it.

I apologize for any of you on Arfcom that these are a repeat. But I know there area lot of guys over here that aren't over there. And maybe some would appreciate them. Even if they are not very good.

If anyone else has some drawn work, would love to see them.

Drawing #1 (yes, aftermarket stocks on a Victory) I know this one is pretty rough......

Drawing #2 Plain ole' Victory, getting a bit better I think.

These were not done with a measuring tool, so I know some of the dimensions are wonky and somehow I managed to give a good slant to the back of the cylinder and not notice until about now. LOL. Oooops. Among other issues. Handle seems a bit off and tapered barrels are not easy to draw. hehehehe

Hope your health continues to improve. There is a huge improvement from number 1 to number 2!!! If you show that much improvement as time goes on, you will soon have some very nice drawings. Number 2 is very nice.

Best Regards, Les

Thanks a bunch guys!!! For the prayers and encouragement.

Yeah, I spent quite a bit more time on the 2nd one and really tried to dial in better. So yeah, I wonder how I can do on the next one! I might have to do a different kind to keep my interest. Maybe a model 10 HB. Or a 1917. Or J frame. We'll see. Although that could've been my magnum opus. LOL.

Although that 2nd one may have been a climax for me. We'll see.

Keep it up, you have talent for it. I admire people who can do that. I couldn't draw attention if I was on fire.

Do the stocks number to the gun? Also, it looks like a non-factory refinish to me. We need to see the other side to check the side plate fit.

Have fun, keep your mind occupied.

LOL.

Working on a heavy barrel model 10, 4" round butt now. It's the right side of it so we don't have to see the lock........... I suppose they made some of those before the lock too.... LOL.

Thanks for the compliments guys. And well wishes and encouragment. I really appreciate it.

Art is the artist interpretation not a photogragh. I have trouble getting stick figures right, so I think you are on the right track. Practice will improve your style. The wife does some landscapes etc. It amazing how the right shading allows it to pop and look 3 dimensional. I got lyme last May and was on antibiotic for 3 weeks. Pain in joints so bad had trouble getting a shirt on. I used the ibuprofen gel caps twice a day and turmeric off a internet site. After a year I feel pretty good, my hands feel stiffer but my grip and strength has been returning. Being 67 and the first time I've ever been sick it set me back. I can do pretty well what I did before property surveying and farming, I just do it a little slower. Don't give up prays out to you

I'm going to post this in the appropriate forum, but I'll put it here too.... Actually, it could fit in either of the other 2 forums.... Hmmmmm...... Since you can't see the lock, it could fit in the 61-80 forum.... Should I put it in both? That seems silly.

I want to keep working on shading this one and making it look more real. But this is kind of like shop drawing mode. Plus I'm worried that I'll just ruin it the more I whittle away at it.

59Dexta... I got bit in 2002 and then had a false negative. So I didn't get antibiotics. Then everything fell apart in 2007. It's a lot harder to get rid of when it's been in your system longer. I have neurological problems now and antibiotics made me feel better for a bit, but then just made my guts all messed up. Not sure if I want to even try a picc line..... Nobody seemed to know jack back then except for maybe a few doctors.

I'm glad you got yours early. You will be better off for it.

My sister in law was misdiagnosis and has struggled with the side effects. She finally found a doctor and has made some improvement. Antibiotic never upset me i guess I was lucky. Keep at your drawings. I collect top breaks if you need any photos for model s.

Keep the faith and keep doing stuff and enjoying life

I like the drawings and think they are great.

I can only draw a revolver from a holster. If I drew one with pencil and paper you might guess it was a revolver.

Your drawings are fantastic. I have ZERO artistic or musical ability. I can do mechanical drafting / drawings but free-hand is embarrassing. You have found a wonderful new skill to get through the tough days.

Prayers sent and keep on drawing.

You have a talent. Look at the progress you have made in a short amount of time! I am enjoying your work and encourage you to keep at it. I know well what struggles you face with a delayed diagnosis, and pray for a full recovery.

The encouragement and comments are overwhelming right now. I thank you guys so much for being stand up guys. Thank you all for the comments.

JH1951, have you dealt with it too? The big issue physically is I have something called POTS. It's a pain in the butt. When it's hot out my symtpoms are worse and stress. But basically I can't stand for an overly long time without my BP dropping and eventually fainting. I've managed for years by just knowing when to sit down (usually 1/2 hour was my limit). But it got worse this year. Allergies too. It's been a bad year.

59Dexta, tell your sister to hang in there and she's not alone. There are a ton of us that have battled this. Not that that makes it any easier. But drop me an IM if she wants or needs someone to talk to. I always like hearing how people are waging war against it because I can learn something.

Also, top breaks are cool. I definitely could think about doing one of them eventually. I wouldn't mind owning one some day. Tell me if you have pics of it posted in the forum somewhere.

I have made my living for the last 45 years drawing with a mechanical pencil , You Sir , have the God given talent . I can see it and see the improvements in your drawings . They are looking good, it takes a little time to develop your own technique and line quality but they are developing....The drawings look good. Don't stop.
Keeping the mind working sometimes gives the body a reason to heal, We will be praying for you, do not despair.

Wow, thank you gwpercle. How in the world did you make a living at art? I'm thoroughly impressed.

Engineer1911: I wonder if those 2 things go hand in hand or something. Because I play guitar, bass guitar and drums. When I got out of high school, that was my passion and I stuck all of my time and effort into it. I should've stayed in college, but I can say I chased my dream. Never went anywhere other than played a few shows that were large venues. But none of the bands ever made it big. Oh well. That's life in the big city. I have used that skill at church though in my adult life.

If I would've been smart I would've kept with drafting too. Like you did. You were smart. I did work as a CAD guy for my Brother in law for a couple of years. And I had mechanical drawing in high school and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I was decent at it too. Geometry was simple for me. Trig, ugh.......

For the most part it's finished. Having a hard time getting a decent picture of it though. Real bright outside and not enough light inside.....

Dudes that do checkering.... Wow. My hats off. I wasn't even willing to put in the time to do it right to draw them. Much less file them out...... Wow.

I technically haven't made a living in "art ", but rather architecture...I draw building plans for residences and small commercal buildings and I still draw the plans with a mechanical pencil , technical drafting pens on sheets of vellum taped to a big drawing board . I could never get into CAD ...having a computer do the drawing just never fit my way of doing things. I started my own building design business in 1972 and since I'm the boss , I get to do it my way .

That is really cool you still do it old skool. NICE!!!! I'm all for non digital. Many wise people say it's good to keep up with the times and always learn. But when it comes to electronics, I think there are many downsides to everything being digital. Not to say there isn't any upsides.

I made another thread in the appropriate forum for this drawing. But I kind of like having them all in one thread too. Just to track the progress. Sorry that it might not be forum appropriate here. But hopefully no one cares that I continue this here to keep track of progress.

Finished it up this Saturday morning. I almost like them before shading more. But whatever. Getting a good picture is part of the battle too.

Thank you. God willing I may try a 629 8-3/8" barrel next for someone on here. Or if he doesn't want it my Uncle might. But I need a sketch pad. That barrel won't fit in my little notebook.

I had intended to draw a 629 with an 8-3/8" barrel. But once I put the grip and frame on the paper I realized I made it waaaaay to big for the super long barrel. It's my first time on a sketch pad and the size is about double of what my other drawings are.

Some of the aspects bug the heck out of me, but I think it's getting there.

I can't decide if I want to do no flutes or flutes..... You guys vote.... I personally prefer flutes, but some guys like no flutes.

Progress has been made. Flutes installed and beveled edges on the cylinder. I tweaked a few dimensions here and there and I think got it a bit closer to what it should be.

Pre shaded mode (I'm still not sure I want to tackle all of those little bumps on the hogue grip.... Ugh. Or the lettering. The lettering scares me less though. And seems like it almost has to be there. LOL.:

I'm impressed with your talent and your effort. I like the light tapered mountain barrel profile. Keep up the practice, you're getting better..............

Thank you very much. Yeah, I really like the mountain gun barrel too. It's more up my alley. I think my passion is shorter barreled guns. Like 2-3"ers. But there is something right about a 4 and 5" K Model 10 too. I like the older M&P 5" tapered barrels and I like a 3-4" bull barrel 10 with a round butt. And I like a lot of J frames. There's a lot to like in Smith and Wesson Revolvers in general.

Outstanding work.
That bein' said, I wonder if you might do up a drawing of a 1903 Colt Pocket Hammerless?
Your work is right up there with the best I have seen on these gunboards.
Stay on task, and get well.

Thank you.

You know, I have to admit, that is one of the few Autos I'd think about doing. I am super fond of them. Never shot one. But I've always lusted after one. In .380. Although I'd take on in .32 also. Why do you ask? I'm assuming you like them a lot.....

It's done. It may be a mistake, but I'm not doing the lettering on the barrel. I don't like doing that billboard on the bottom of the frame either. Maybe one day I'll have the confidence to do all that. But at this point I feel like if I attempt that "Mountain Gun" lettering, I'm just going to make a mess...... LOL.

I feel like I have to overexpose a picture to get it to look like it does on the paper. That's why it looks so dark.

A late friend of mine got his BA and MA in art. He worked as a commercial artist for a sign company. There was a fire in the building and he died helping to get employees out.

I have a pencil drawing of Nathan Bedford Forrest that he did.

Well, I took my Aunt's advice and tried my hand at a person. It's my son. It has a likeness but the proportions are way off. I tried to do one of my daughter and she looked like a demon child. I'm disappointed in the fact that it's just entirely too tall, his head overall. But since it's only the second face I did, I should give myself some slack.

But I need to do a gun again... I'm debating on a 38 or 5" tapered barrel 10 right now. Those are the 2 at the top of my list this minute.

I'll post the pic I was drawing from, just be fair. Since none of you know what he looks like. I started with the eyes and maybe that was part of my issue. And somehow I cocked them in the process and just kept on going like that. LOL.

That art work is magnificent!
Good luck with Lyme also. Know what it`s like. Was parylized from neck down, hospitalized 10 months, almost lost both arms, did lose 8 toes.
Good new is my arms and legs are coming back but still can only move thumbs and trigger finger. All from a tick bite. I share all of the pain and weakness episodes but glad to still be here. Just turned 66. Went down in 2012.
But, again i commend you on your gift of art.
stay strong
Jim
