Default St. Louis PD #350 - 5" .38 M&P - Shipped May 1923

Here's an early one.......Picked this one up from another collector in the Seattle area a few years back. The stocks number to the gun.

Great gun!!! The one that I have (SN 540203), has no number stamped on the back strap, sports the wrong grips (which I think are too early for the gun) and is not nearly as nice as your beauty. Mine has definitely been "modified" somewhere along its journey...

...looks like it was dropped on its hammer at some point (gives it that extra little curl)...

... and then there is the front sight - who knows what the story is there - I wish I knew.

I have a 5" Colt Army Special stamped for the St. Louis PD on the butt. Serial suggests a 1924 date.

If I were able financially to collect guns, law enforcement-marked revolvers would be my theme.

That's a very nice one.

That gun is in exceptionally nice condition. Appears almost unissued, or at least not carried much.

Here’s what a WORKING police M&P from May 1923 looks like.

Minneapolis P.D., shipped May 21, 1923, and carrried by Officer Paul B. Green.

What kind of tool was used to make such an impression in the 1920's?

I have always assumed it was done with a roll stamp. However some of the PD guns I have almost appear to be stamped with individual letters. If you look at the Austin PD 38/44 you will see what I mean.

THREEDFLYER ,

That stamp work is very nicely done ; a real enhancement to the revolver in my opinion.

That stated , my query was actually directed to Absalom , regarding his 1923 police M&P.

I also have a roll marked St. Louis Police Dept revolver in the same configuration as the others shown , but in all upper case. the revolver is a Colt Official Police 4" shipped 1938.

Hard to find PD marked guns these days for sure.
Kind of like the old US Military guns that were sold off to the general public back in the day.......our government was certainly different back then!

I really don’t know. It’s composed of dots. It looks like some handtool that ground little round depressions into the metal. Today you could do this with a Dremel, but I doubt those were around back then.
