Default Backyard fun with my Model 15

I posted earlier about the ca. 1958 Model 15 DPD gun I bought last weekend. I added a pair of factory Presentation target grips to it which makes it look and feel even better. My grandson Travis (age 8) was with us this weekend and I decided it was time to teach him something about real guns. When he's here, one of his favorite things is to shoot my BB gun at tin cans in the back yard. But this time I gave him an introduction to real shooting with that Model 15 and some wax bullet loads. These are made simply by drilling out the flash holes to 1/8" and pressing the case mouth into a block of canning paraffin, then priming. I showed Travis how to de-prime and re-prime on one of my loading presses and he caught on very quickly. We made up 100 rounds of those loads. He also caught on fast about loading and unloading the Model 15. Targets were corn cobs hanging from a squirrel feeder in an Oak tree in my back yard, at about 25 feet. These primer-only loads make very little noise, and soon Travis was hitting the corn cobs about a third of the time. We stopped after those 100 rounds were fired, but he wanted to keep going. Maybe the next time he visits we'll do it again.

Great to see him learning at a young age. Keep it going!

I got my son started in handgun shooting when he was about four. He'd sit on my lap and shoot balloons at bout 50 feet with my Ruger Mark II which I'd load with one round, then remove the mag.

Walt, good looking boy. Looks like he is handling that gun like a pro.
Maybe a K22 for B-day present? Come on Pops, break some of the stash loose. He is going to get it all anyway. Keep the flame alive.
