Post S&W Revolver Identification

Can someone help identify this revolver. I went to a gun show and they could not conclusively ID or value the gun.

Here are the details:
1) Hand Ejector
2) The serial number is hard to read but looks like 29827
3) No caliber is stamped on the gun, but it is a 32 cal.
4) Barrel is 5"
5) The gun has a stain screw
6) 5 screw gun

I inherited the gun along with others all circa early 1900's.

Welcome to the Forum.

Looks like a .32-20 Hand Ejector from around 1906-1909.

I'm not sure that's actually a S&W product. But I'm no expert.

Aaaand...that's why I remind people I am no expert.

Dealers at gun shows don't know much of anything about guns. The grips on your gun say early teens to me; but, the gun itself with that SN may be earlier. Like you said, turn of the century more or less. If I had to guess the gun without the grips, I'd put it around 1903-1905. It is really in rough shape but a lot of that is dirt and grime. I would likely pay $200-$250 for the gun and have a good time cleaning it up and trying to recondition it. This is all assuming it's a Smith. I think it is, but if Art Doc is right, the value drops to about nothing.

Thanks for the prompt relies. I am hoping it is a S&W, but I am concerned since it has inconsistencies in the markings. Regardless, now I know it is no prize and I will take whatever I can get from the dealer.

I am leaning toward thinking that it is indeed a Smith & Wesson as identified above; besides the general appearance, the presence of the assembly numbers is a detail you don’t find on Spanish copies.

Are there any patent date marked on top of the barrel? The absence of markings on the barrel’s sides and the missing logo is puzzling.

My feeling is the pretty much the same as above. If it is an S&W it should have some markings to that effect, in addition to patent and caliber stampings on the barrel. Is it possible to get a .32-20 round to see if it fits in the chambers?

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! A dealer will not give you squat for that gun. Best to just clean it up and sell it to someone who wants a shooter. .32-20 chambers neck down in diameter toward the front of the cylinder while other calibers have a shoulder in the chamber. Take a picture of the chambers so we can see which it is. Can you tell if it is an I frame (small) or a K frame (medium)? It has been refinished in nickel. Look under the barrel on the ejector rod flat and see if there are numbers & letters there.
