I may have an old hand ejector
Hello,
Just inherited an old hand ejector and believe it to be from the 1910s. Appreciate any help on its information and background. The serial number is 474xxx.
Regards

My non-expert guess would be early to mid 1920s. Is it in 38 S&W Special? Makes it a Military & Police Model. In 1957 S&W designated this the Model 10.

Yes, it’s a 38 S&W Special and is a 5 screw. Beside some blemishes on the front of the barrel, the original blue finish remains good. Wonder what its value?

Based strictly on what is visible your revolver dates between 1922-1928. The order to add the "Made in USA" dates to mid-1922. The order changing the extractor rod head from the shape your gun has to the later, smaller, barrel-shaped "large extractor rod knob" came in 1927-1928 depending on source. The stocks are the 1920-1930 period style and probably are number-matched to the frame. Nice revolver.
Value would be between $350-550.

You have one of Smith's most produced revolvers over the years. I'd value it at $350-400. They're handy, go shoot it!

Welcome from the Forum. That is a 38 Military & Police, 4th Change. There are several clues to help one identify the age of these revolvers. First, the fact that the gun has a MADE IN USA stamped on the frame narrows it to being made in or after 1922. The mushroom shaped ejector rod knob tells us that the gun precedes the barrel shaped knob that was done around 1927. So, without looking up the serial number dates, you can narrow those guns down quickly.
Lastly, the SWCA database shows your gun was shipped from the factory around 1924. I love shooting those 4" guns and have one just like yours. It is very accurate, especially with wad-cutter ammo.

474xxx
466450 shipped in 10/23 and 487641 shipped in 6/24 so by interpolation your M&P probably shipped sometime in early 1924. The grips on it are correct for the 1920s.
