What was the most common barrel length for the RM's? I anticipate in another month or so I'll be in the hunt for a shooter grade RM.

Judging by the posts here on the Forum, I believe it would 6 1/2".

Here are the numbers from Jinks' published treatise on the RM's. I say "the numbers", 5,224 RM's were produced. Records for 4,371 of these exist---the balance "are not available". It was deemed appropriate to extrapolate estimated totals from the known, and the numbers here are those estimated totals. If you want the known, just let me know.

In the for what it's worth department, the registration numbers, configuration, and barrel lengths of the 144 known nickel guns are available--as are the serial numbers of the non RM's--as are the registration numbers of those with humpback hammers. All in all there are 22 pages of more information than you could digest in a week of intense study. It was a monumental undertaking.
