Letters on Grip Frame
Gee guys. I think we are talking 7th Cavalry at Pleiku, Viet Nam here.
My uncle was 7th Cavalry. WWII veteran MIA (declared KIA) in Korea,
October 12, 1951.

Possibly a California driver's license number, no idea if the format is correct however.

Alan,
That's what I was thinking because format is correct and matches mine.

At least it was lightly scratched, and not "carved" into the frame with an electro-pencil that was so popular back in the 50's to 60's. I know most of us would wish a pox on whoever the gunwriter was back then that recommended putting your Social Security # or Drivers License # on your guns. Unfortunately I bought a real nice K38 at a gun show and didn't remove the grips until I got home and found a previous owners name carved deeply into the butt frame under the grips. Not much you can do about it.
