new to me 87 year old .22 Outdoorsman
traded for this Sunday at the Dyersburg, TN gun show. I've owned a couple in the past, but none this nice. SN 6360XX, all matching including stocks. from what a friend found out, it shipped in July, 1931. it has the gold bead front sight and the early rear sight. sorry for the blurry picture of the front sight. enjoy. lee

Lee, that's almost enough to get me interested in small bores. Beautiful as well as functional.

You did good on that one. Those stocks look great and a gold bead early one at that.
Congrats.

Nice!
Dang that pic of the front of the cylinder makes it look unfired. If I'm not mistaken, it would also be a good pic to show the tip of the ejector rod in the white, one of the tell-tale signs of an original finish.

Looks like a winner. Questions about shooting collectible guns seem to swirl about around here lately... this is one I would have to shoot some (it's not really unfired, is it?) but it would get gentle cleaning after each use and be carefully stored to preserve its outstanding condition. Congratulations!

i'm sure it's been fired by the slight turn ring and a little brass marking around the firing pin hole. I don't think I can bring myself to shoot this one. thanks for the nice comments. lee

That is a beauty! It is fairly close to one I had, 6377xx which shipped July 31. Except mine was in far worse condition. You have to shoot it a few times at least.

That one's a b-yoot Lee! AND it's an early example with the single rear screw on the rear sight.
And I was glad to see you didn't trade one of those WW2 45's that you keep stacked up in the corner. I do love the Outdoorsmans, both calibers. The pre-scuffle and the post-scuffle editions.

1931 Outdoorsman, Gold Bead Front
You made a great trade Sarge, no matter what you traded your "New To You" is a real beauty. I don't expect a little light exercise will do that beauty any real harm if you change your mind. Enjoy!

VERY NICE!! Don't shoot it then, because like potato chips, if you choot it once, you'll want to choot it again....and again! I couldn't help myself, everytime I looked at it, I'd want to take that buttery smooth pre-war action, in one of S&W's finest and accurate guns, out for a spin! Just pose this question- What would Elmer Keith and Ed McGivern do?

I think that one was shipped July 31st also, 2018!
One thing I notice that's unusual is that the extractor knob appears to be a separate piece; not made integral with the rod, but rather it's threaded onto the rod. Just like the early mushroom knobs.
