97 yr olds: finding a serial number near yours?
I just ran across an active discussion here where a gentleman is restoring a Hand Ejector M&P 1905/Fourth Change and he posted all six digits of the serial number and to my surprise, his project gun is just 265 numbers after my family hierloom that was my Grandfather's, given to me by him when I graduated high school.
This revolver is the only "lettered" firearm I currently own and seeing another that close in number sure seems like long odds.
What's the agreed-upon number of S&W K-38's... six million plus? 97 years old are these two, and that close in number.
I think that's neat and it makes me wonder how close some others on these forums have seen serial numbers, especially on very old guns.

I can't contribute any more than my appreciation for the subject.
Neat topic, and I hope the posts keep coming.

I have a pair of 1950 Targets, S103842 and S103850. Both guns are in their boxes and both are .45 COLT. Close as I can come to consecutive pair.

I've got 445058 and my notes show it would be about 97 years old. I'm not sure how I came up with the year, but I probably spent some time researching it when I got it. How close it that to your serial number?

Mine is 357xxx and dates to May 1921 so I'd assume yours is a few years later.

I have a Second Model .44, that a previous owner had lettered. Someone else has the next serial number, and it was shipped to the same place in Peoria, IL. I bought mine at a gun show within 50 miles of Peoria; he was out west someplace. (Both 5 inch guns, by the way.)

Just amazing and beautiful! And what's the odds the'd both be in such spectacular condition? I've seen consecutives matched up before but one may be nice and the other beat up.
Incidently; you have two 'K22/40 1st model Masterpieces', or two 'K22 2nd Models -Masterpieces'.

S 298434 is a 27-2. It wears non-diamond Magnas with the serial stamped on one side so they are original to the gun. A few years ago a forum member posted a photo of his 27-2 with a serial about 40 digits earlier than mine. That revolver had its original diamond Magnas. So apparently the change was taking place right about that time.
I saw a rifle on Gunbroker with a serial consecutive to the one I owned. But the price was too high to attempt a purchase.
I had a 1949 BRNO 22F stolen in 1985. About 20 years later I bought another one off Gunbroker and the serial was 5 numbers away from the stolen one.
