Yes, the Model 29 should have coke bottle stocks.

If I bought a S&W to harvest the stocks and sell the rest I sure wouldn't talk about here.

And I would never do that, by the way.

I see Cokes selling for upwards of 500.00 Never seen one or had one in my hand, but this grip thing is getting out of control. 300.00 for S&W combats?? I saw this same thing happen with shotgun stocks. 3000.00 for a blank before you pay somebody to whittle on it. I have paid handsomely for some aftermarket stocks, but I am getting close to the end of that. I reached the point with rifles and shotguns, that it can be made out of a fence post, so long as it fits. Pistols soon to follow

A set of "cokes" sold on eBay recently for $705. Was watching them but they quickly got too rich for my blood. Think that's the most expensive set of "cokes" I've seen sell and they didn't appear to be perfect.

ben_g1...Coke bottle stocks were phased out in favor of diamond target stocks made of Goncalo alves beginning in early 1966. Model 29-2s with an S prefix serial number continued through 1969, so these revolvers are fitted with diamond targets made of Goncalo alves (as are Model 57s).

Default Cokes

My 4-screw .44 Magnum (pre-Model 29) has a nice set of Coke Bottle stocks, which I had DWFAN refinish for me (due to a chip and some worn diamond checkering). The refinishing doesn't appear to detract from the price of CB stocks either...they're routinely selling for $500+ in almost any condition. I love the feel of CBs, and I wish S&W hadn't switched to the Targets (I assume due to production costs). Most of my post-1957 N-frame revolvers have Target stocks, and they're just no where near as comfortable or contoured as the CBs. It is a shame to see how many older .44 Magnums are being sold without their original stocks.

Were any of the early diamond targets made of other than Goncalo Alves? I have a set on an early S sn 29-2 that seem too dark for GA. Thanks.

While no expert on wood, your stocks appear to me to be walnut. I can say this because my model 15 has walnut diamond targets and the wood matches your stocks perfectly. BTW, from your picture, your stocks appear to extend farther than the straps. Why so?

Because someone long ago (I've owned the gun since 1975) probably fired it with the stocks resting on a hard surface resulting in a "chunk" missing from the stocks. I've been meaning to get this set repaired for a long time and am hoping one of the magicians here will help with that one of these days.

As to being walnut, maybe but I don't think so. I've got lots of walnut stocks but none look like these. No expert on wood though and appreciate your reply.
