38 s&w Regulation Police info
Trying to nail down a year on the RP I just inherited from a family member. I am pretty sure it is Pre-war, and best I can guess it is early 30's or so, but the more I read, the less sure I become. Lol
S/N 393XX
Any help is greatly appreciated. I will be getting a letter at some point in the near future

It has the small logo so it is before 1935. It does not have the large Ejector button so it is after 1927. That's as close as I can get. I hope it helps.

That's a sweetheart! What a great family heirloom.
The serial # would lead one to think it shipped in 1940. But they were not built or shipped in # order. And the shipping dates are even more eractic due to the depression years so the grip medallions (4/29), logo (12/36) and extactor style knob are our best clues to the vintage of it's production.

There is actually a .38 RP known with a serial number in the 39xxx range that shipped in early 1930, so it's possible your revolver shipped that early as well. But it is true that during periods of slow sales (the Great Depression, for example), revolvers with lower serial numbers could be shipped long after specimens with higher numbers had been taken from the vault and sent on their way.
Very nice revolver. Please post back with the letter information when you receive it.

I list SN 389xx as a .38 RP which shipped in 5/1936. That does not mean yours did, only that it must have been made at some time prior to that date.
