Default 1902 HE 32-20 ??s

Have been a collector of C&R and Antiques for 25 yrs+ and just getting into the S&Ws. I was fortunate to win a bid on a very very nice nickel finish 32-20. Since I have several rifles in that cal. I thought this might go well with them. I am attaching some pics to help with a possible value and any other info that can better inform me as to it's collectability.

Looks like it has an after market refinish given the plating of the hammer, trigger, and ejector star. With the refinish value, where I shop anyway, is probably in the $250-$300 range although I wouldn't be surprised to see it priced higher. If it is mechanically tight it should be a fun shooter. Enjoy.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! It's a pretty shooter but not collectible due to the nickel refinish. It was originally a blued gun (B in front of the SN on the barrel flat). Also, the hammer, trigger and ejector star have been plated. But the nickel plate looks to be in good condition so it should be a great shooter for a long time to come.

$3-350.00 sounds about right for the area I live in. Nice gun, enjoy it.

I would concur with the previous estimates. The serial makes it a very early one, and these are often not in good shape finish-wise. The refinish may not have done much damage value-wise, but it has lost collectability.

The refinish is not just in very good condition, it was also nicely done with minimal buffing leaving markings looking quite crisp. Had the refinisher been knowledgable enough to leave hammer, trigger, and extractor star alone, only the B would give it away.

As Guy pointed out, that gun started out with a blued finish from the factory. Nice job of plating, but hammer trigger, and most of the extractor star were not plated when made. I am thinking that you would get maybe $300 for the gun if sold as a refinished S&W. I hope the seller described the gun as a refinish as well.

Welcome to the forum.

In addition to the above comments, I would have to add a possible deduction for the broken stock panel. Since the gun has been refinished then replacement stocks will not bring it down much but since they have a cost to purchase, I would have to take that off any value estimate.

Welcome to the Forum.

I'm very fond of round butt .32-20 revolvers, even if refinished. Yours looks nice.

I would have to disagree with Mike on this one. It may not be a collectible but it most likely still goes bang and if an air soft gun sells for a hundred to two hundred, I would much rather have a real gun for the same price. Even with a non factory paint job.

If you bought it as a shooter, and not as a collectible, it will do the job. I'd agree with the value range previously offered, around $300 +/- $50. Based on the SN, it probably shipped in 1904, possibly 1905, but my SN list of K-frame .32-20s from that period is not well populated. You may be aware that K-frames in .32-20 were numbered in a separate series from those in .38 Special.
