Default Triple Lock Find

Any of you who read my posts with any regularity know that I am a bargain hunter and have been able to accumulate some nice pieces at what seems like less than market prices. Patience, always looking, and being a little impulsive at times have rewarded me with only a coupe of duds.

In the middle of two terrible weeks at work, I spent a few munutes browsing GB for nickel Smith & Wessons...I found a 6-1/2 barreled nickel triple lock. Not an auction but a want ad. Nickel finish showimg its age, and the description said somone had done some buffing of flakes or pitting on the finish. I looked at the photos, and it didnt look too bad, so at $1010 shipped, I hit the buy it now.

Paid for it Saturday morning and it arrived at my LGS Monday before lunch.

Yes, the finish has some issues, but all numbers match, except no numbers visible on the grips.. they look to have been varnished. No rework stamp anywhere and the configuration matches the letter (which I did not get).

Barely a turn line, and this thing is a tight as a drum.

With prices continuing to climb on these, I never thought I would own one. I am pleased with this one. Stopping at the range after work.

What do you guys think?

Robert

Reasonably priced and looks like a fine example TL. I have a hard time buying nickel guns that are blemished..unless they are going to be tool box guns...and my tool box guns need to be cheap as in under 250 bucks..so no TL tool box guns for me..

Nice catch, I think you did well! IT'S A TRIPLE LOCK!!! Maybe some flitz polish to knock off the brown spots and it'll look fine.I think grips are correct for that late a shipment, and the SN was written in pencil. (hard to see after 102 years!) Looking forward to range report!

As has been said "They aren't making any more of them". I'd be happy.

It is rock solid in that regard. I was surprised by that. No end shake nor side to side..

Default Nickel Triple Lock

I would say you have done well, for a very special gun. I paid $600 for well worn 2nd model, so I could see myself making the leap for a nickle TL that is blemished but mechanically sound. Overall it makes a very nice appearance.

A little polishing with Flitz will improve its appearance.

I'd own it for that price for sure.

Will stay tuned to hear the results of your shooting use of the revolver.

Mothers Mag Polish might be even more gentle than Flitz.

Not many opportunities to get a TL, especially at that price, you definitely made the right move.

Good for you.
Just polish it. A refinished gun, no matter how WELL it is done, has ZERO % original finish!

WHY didn't you get the letter with it?
If they are worried about the name and/or address of the person the letter was sent to, have them neatly cut it out.
I have never understood people who won't send the letters with the guns.
MORONIC!

They said they sent the letter, unfortunately, the guy who received it didn't see it or lost it when unpacking....i asked for it when i picked the gun up and called again today...no luck. It"s ok, i copied the second page of the letter from the listing, so i know where and when it shipped.

Wow! That cleaned up GREAT!
I thought the first pics were kinda grungy. As I read the posts, the suspense really built for me to see the outcome after some Flitz and elbow grease.
Very impressive!
Personally, I like "patina", but acknowledge that it's an acquired taste. "Safe Queens" and "Bubba-beaters" don't really do it for me. Your TL is literally "on target" for me!

Glad you're OK with the outcome, too!

Cheers,
Jim
