I have an earlier era model 15 in reasonable shape for age,
showing only holster wear, otherwise mechanically tight and exact.
and shooting true.
Hoping folks can give me an idea of it's age/rarity?

Ca. 1954 K38 5 screw Combat Masterpiece. Model 15 designation began in 1957. Nice example you have there, but not a particularly "rare" revolver... BTW, welcome to the forum from North Dakota

K 223XXX was manufactured sometime in 1954 and probably shipped around mid-1955. An exact shipping date would require a historical letter ($75). At that time it would have been called the .38 Combat Masterpiece, not the Model 15 (model numbering did not begin until the late 1950s). Yours could also be called a pre-Model 15. Not at all rare, as they enjoyed widespread law enforcement use. An average condition example (which yours is) will usually sell in the $400+ range. The grips on yours are not factory original, see the above picture for typical Magna grips used on these. You should attach a picture showing the left side view of the target grips as those on it could have some significant value if they are of the type without the football-shaped cutout on the left panel.

Having a target trigger, it is more likely to be a replacement. TTs were not available until a little later. No trick (usually) to swap out triggers. If you want a standard trigger, often some are to be found on eBay. All CMs had adjustable sights. The "Target" version of much the same revolver is the K-38 Masterpiece, later becoming the Model 14. It has a 6" barrel, but a few having 5" barrels exist. Most target grips are not serial numbered, but sometimes they are seen with ink date stamps inside.

I was going to say ID a 15? Seems like you have. It's a 15. But it's not a 15. I should have known.
