Found This Model 1953 22/32Pre-35
We were doing a Prepper/Gun show in Gwinnett Co. Fairgrounds this weekend and right before closing a fellow came by and spotted my 35-1. He said he had a gun that looked a lot like mine but maybe just a little bit smaller. He happened to have pictures of it in his phone. Non model marked 22. I got permission for him to come back in after closing so he went home (4 miles) to retrieve this little revolver for me. A righteous improved I-Frame Model of 1953 Pre 35. A 3 screw frame in the 23K SN range. One small blemish on the side plate and another on the cylinder, but otherwise very nice. Well here it is, and I'm proud to own it.

The 35 is one of my favorite S&W .22s...
Had a 1956 vintage just like yours...

Very nice, we would like more photos. You are lucky bdGreen didn't see that first. I wouldn't have passed on it either.

So it’s the overall size of a real pre-War Regulation Police, but with a coil mainspring in a true square grip frame with adjustable sights and a 6” barrel, right? Is that as rare as I’m thinking?
I’ve gotten to the point of liking my K-frame 22 for actual field and range use, but my pre-War HFT still strikes me as a very interesting little gun. Congrats on a really nice find.

OK, here are a few more. I believe that would be considered the third variation of the flat latch.

Nice catch. I had a mint one in box that I bought from Jack Roy's in Hamtramck Michigan back in the mid 70s that I gave to my daughter. My son got a model 34.

I had three in the box back in the late 1990s... Sold them all to friends at what I had in them which was about $350.00. At the same time I also had a 1956 pre-34 2" round butt that someone had put a 35 barrel on. A few years ago I was visiting one of the forum members and he fell in love with it so i sold it.
Shortly thereafter I found another original 1956 and then scored a Model 51 .22 Magnum cylinder. Unfortunately the newer Magnum cylinder would not fit into the Improved I-frame pre-35.
Talked to one of my friends who is more a collector than shooter and he was thrilled to take the older gun in trade...and a few minutes with a great gunsmith I have near here transformed the newer 35 into a two cylinder gun... I have never seen or heard of another.
It also now wears a pretty smooth set of J-targets...

Beautiful 22/32 Target Models; New I and J frames.
They were so unpopular when produced because most people could only have one, so they chose one of the Kit Guns with 2 or 4 inch barrel. That of course makes them highly desirable now. They're quite a scarcity.
There were no 22/32 Improved I frame models ever produced. They went right from the Post War Transitional Models to the Model of 1953 New I frame with coil mainspring, enlarged trigger guard, and 1/8" longer rd butt grip frame, once again being the same sizes as the J frame (New Model of 1953). Plus the new sq butt style, 5/32" longer than the new rd butt.
So there are 3 and 4 screw Models of 1953 New I frame 22/32 Targets (the pre model 35s), and Model 35s, and the J frame models 35-1. Pg 144 SCSW 4th. No factory M35s offered with rd butt.
Only the J frame 35-1s will accept the Mag cyl., since the M51 was only produced on the J frame.

Anyone have an idea of what a near perfect pre-model is worth. No box.

I gave a very nice pre-model Kit Gun and $500 bucks for mine a few years back. Scarce and desirable~~~~ No regrets. I like it better that my K-22's.
All variety of the M-35's sell for a grand or more if in great condition.

SDH
The asking price is $1200 which according to your estimate is not that far off.
For sure you don't see them that often. I'll probably offer $1000 and see what Happens.
Thanks
