Two Sets - Culina Grips
Just got back from John Culina's shop in Rocklin for the last time. He and Jennifer are beginning their move to Springfield, OR on Monday (3 Sep). I went there to pick up a set of K targets for my Mod 19 (1958) and came home with two sets, another for one of my K-38s. They're scheduled to re-open in Oregon on 1 Oct. Anyway here are some pictures of the two sets of the walnut grips.

What he said.
No disrespect intended, but I don't think any revolver made does those stocks justice. That's really beautiful work.

Coincidentally, I talked to John yesterday and also ordered two sets of his grips! A set of N frames in fiddleback Claro were shipped this morning and will go on my M27-2 as soon as they arrive next week. The second set in ziricote will have to wait until he & Jennifer get set up in Oregon and will go on a M66. The dark wood should make a nice contrast with the stainless steel revolver. Pictures will have to wait until they are delivered.

I jsut received two sets of John's new J Frame boot grips. I have one set Jennifer sent me to do an evaluation and testing on that they let me keep, and I liked it so much I ordered another set, unfinished, and Jennifer threw in a second set that didn't come up to their standards, and had pits and fills, etc. I'm in the process of finishing both. I guess I didn't realize unfinished also meant not quite fit either. I had to spend quite a bit of time getting them to fit, (not my best skill). I promised Jennifer I'd send her pictures when done. Won't probably get up to John's standards, but works for me.

I have a nice set of K Magna's on order that were shipped out today.
I received this photo which I'll have to look at until they actually arrive. ( The day after Labor day if the mail is on time)
Nicely grained fiddleback Claro walnut with their more subdued satin finish, Jennifer tells me it's called snakeskin fiddleback and says the photo does not do the justice.
When I get them on my K-22 I'll post photos.

I am still patiently, patiently, patiently waiting on a set of K RB combats in Gaboon Ebony for the Model 65 that I gave Dad back in the '90s. Sept 8th will be the 5th anniversary of his passing and my getting the M65 back.
Did I mention how patient I am?

Ordered some N Combats in regular Walnut with Tung oil back in April/May, anyway they were awesome the more I thought about it decided to get another set. They arrived last week. Will install soon. John is a true artist, Jennifer is wonderful to do business with.
I may order something fancy after they are settled in Oregon.
I've have it narrowed down who gets the new art work.

I won't try to explain how much I appreciate Jennifer's patience and John's craftsmanship. Before he was advertising round to square butt conversions I asked him if he could perform the task on this 629 Mountain Revolver, he did a beautiful job and just happened to have a nice piece of honey Bastogne walnut laying around to finish into these stocks. I love the stocks so much that when I sold the piece I kept the them and they now reside on my favorite carry piece a 24-3 L.H. Special. Jennifer has patiently held my hand while I've waited for orders to get finished, once for a piece of Coco Bolo that went onto my 2nd Model H.E. Quality people you can depend on, I wish them all but the best.

Not step on this thread but in response to checkering, these were done by someone John sent out to. John made the stocks and had his friend checker them, they are amazing, finest work I've ever had done myself.

If the set I saw on John's bench this a.m. were yours, they're beautiful!

Best Stocks Available
John’s work is beautiful!! I have a few of his grips and they are the best. Here is a set of .357’s - Model 66 with Zebrawood and Model 19 with Padauk. Also included is a Classic with American Holly.

That American holly is good stuff. It has a ivory vibe going for it, plus some interesting grain.
The Black walnut is sweet as well.
