Default Insanity is...

This morning I picked up a new addition to my S&W revolver family, on a sort of impulse buy if you will, as I already sort of have one... It is a 1956 Pre-Model 27, 5" with smooth target grips, target hammer, and the wide ribbed target trigger. She also sports a ramp style front sight with orange insert (factory original?), and a lifetime of holster wear that exudes mystery about her former life. The gun is in decent functional condition, with good lock-up, and no hammer push-off, with usual amount of action wear. This revolver called to me for some reason, and I felt like I needed to add it to my collection despite already having a 6" 1969 Model 27-2 that I picked up a few months back.

I haven't shot the Pre-27 yet, but if it's anything like my 27-2, it'll be a real treat. I just love these revolvers.

They don't come much better than a Pre 27!

Trust me, 5" Pre-27's pretty much call to everybody on this Forum. Excellent find!

Yea, I think I would have bitten on that one also.

Congratulations.

Very nice! I did the same thing and added another old iron to collection this week. This time it's a sweet 1946 transitional HD 4". Can't...stop...collecting....

I love the "smoothie" stocks on it - beautiful grain. I wonder if they were original to the gun; I suspect not, as they have the "football" cutouts.
