what box for SV serials- post war M&P?
I been looking for a box for my post war transitional blue 4 inch 38 spcl. with serial SV 807087 and I have actually located a Maroon M&P box with the serial on bottom of V 815888 also blued 4 inch square butt. So I believe that victory number being higher than my post war commercial gun - the maroon box cold be correct. Or did they begin shipping in gold boxes for commercial guns after the war regardless of serial number?

I have SV769844, a 5" in the numbered maroon box and SV809976, a 4", also in a maroon box so that would be correct for your gun too. I also have S820916, a 6" in a maroon box. lee

I think the gold boxes were gradually phased in during the course of 1947. I have a late-1947 gun with original gold box. Jack may correct me, but I have not come across any 1946 specimen with gold box yet.

I have always assumed that the introduction of the gold box was 1947 as well. Just out of curiosity, when were the gold boxes replaced with sliver or blue?
Supica Nahas SCSW4 state, however, gold boxes were 1946 to 1965, staing that these boxes were immediately after WWII for some models and gradually spread across most of the product range.
