Nickel finish Triple Lock with 5" barrel
A recent acquisition, right off the forum. Came with a later set of stocks, sold already to a member of this forum. I had a set of medallion stocks I placed on this gun. Both I already owned, but obtained separately, so left side darker than right side, which doesn't really bother me. But right medallion more soiled than left one. What should I use to remove surface residues from right medallion without also removing gold plating?
Shipped May 1910, factory letter does not specify what type of stocks originally affixed to this Triple Lock, so either type are appropriate. I don't exactly have a set of non medallion stocks kicking about, do you?

Was not happy with photograph depicting second lock. Suggested a refinished state. Here is a clearer photograph of the second lock which clearly demonstrates that this revolver remains unrefinished.

Glad it's got a good home, I finished 2nd place on the ad, LOL. Nice, Original, 5", TL, Nickel. What's not to like! I like the medallion stocks. All we need now is a Range Report!

Very, very nice TL. My refinished TL was also shipped in 1910.

Not only non medallion, but concave, not convex, non medallion.

Get some Blue Wonder cleaner and that should clean those stocks without hurting anything.

Okay thank you. What is Blue Wonder cleaner and where do you obtain it? Or, does anything else come to mind that might work consisting of a typical cleaning agent or solvent available in an average household? Volume necessary is negligible as a medallion is rather small.

Blue wonder is a bluing agent. They make a cleaner to get the metal prepared to best take the blue. It removes rust but does not affect a blue finish. They have videos on YouTube that show how their products work. You can usually find them at A well-stocked local gun store or you can order them off the internet.
You can also clean the stocks with acetone.

Okay. However, the stocks in their present state are acceptable to me. It is the one medallion I would like to spruce up a bit.

A little denatured alcohol on a cotton swab can clean those up.

Okay, will do. I assumed that would work, but did not know how readily common household solvents might lift the gold leaf.

Try nail polish remover.
I've used non-acetone nail polish remover with good success to remove the grim.

Hello Ole Bud,
You can use a bit of baking soda as a mild abrasive, in a little water or oil or WD40 as the liquid carry agent.w a cotton q-tip. It's never been too strong in my many experiences regarding the early gold medallions. YMMV..
Best , Randy..

Good cleaning suggestions. Hope they got nice and shiny in the last five years.

Well, I completely forgot about this thread and that this was even an issue. Now I know how to improve the medallion on one stock next time I decide they aren’t shiny enough.
So, thank you for all your suggestions and, IIRC, I never got around to or completely forgot the problem at hand.

Please name that magnificent Triple-Lock, "Ox," because the Bible says I shall not lust after my neighbor's ox.
