Default Box label

Have a 36 box that has "SR 10 31 8" stamped in red at the lower right corner. Could this be a shipping date? I don't have that many Smiths still in the box so I have a limited base for comparison.

Does that say "swivel?"

The red stamping looks like a distributor's number to me.

Yes, it says swivel. I have 2 Navy over runs and am going to sell this one unless the stamp has some significant meaning. The other box has no such stamp.

Not too close, the shape of the loop is similar, post is much shorter and is bright blue.

What variation is your pictured revolver? I like the look.

The extra length is special for the rubber grips. A similar round ring is still available but different base from both photos above, but yours has a D ring.

It's a Model 36-6. Only 2000 were made for the US market in 1989 ans is uncatalogued. It was replaced by a stainless Model 60-4, in 1990, and +P rated, limited production. Became regular production 1992 to 1999.

It was made in 1996 in 357 Mag as the Mod 60-10.
