Default Anyobdy got a real good pic of Patton's .357?

All the ones I've conjured up on a search are kind of far away.... Just curious of somehow someone has a decent close up pic of that gun. I think it's a 27 with a 3.5" barrel. Eh?

A simple search will find lots of pictures, on this forum and elsewhere, of the gun, the order, the belt and holsters he used, etc. Patton's .357 was a Registered Magnum made well before the model numbers came along. One example: http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/...ghlight=patton

It sticks in my mind that soon after the movie came out I saw ads for repro "Patton" grips in one of the gun mags. I was tempted and didn't even own an N-frame then.

Sure they did. The one on top is Patton's, the one on the bottom was used by George C. Scott in the movie.

Hey Keith44spl, would you be so kind as to email me that pic. For some reason sometimes when I right click and save from this forum, it doesn't work. Grrrrrrrrr......

But that is about the best pic I've seen of Patton's .357. I wonder if he actually loaded and shot .357 or just GI .38......

I believe that as a general officer, Patton wouldn't have any trouble packing enough .357 ammo to take overseas.

You can't see the guns very well in this invasion picture at Sicily, but it's a good picture of my uncle who was Patton's jeep driver in North Africa through Sicily. I have a few images and Patton sometimes wore a single revolver, sometimes wore the pair, and sometimes was seen with a revolver and wood stocks.

ABPOS - Forgot to add that if you double-click on the picture, it will open in a new window and you can save that image.

I had a great uncle that was I think part of Patton's division and was a mechanic. In the war and his whole life I think.....

I don't really know any of the stories. My Grandpa Died in Normandy on the 27th of July, 2nd ID. Sgt. I wish I had a picture of while he was there. I have one of him and my Grandma at a USO dance.

The pic still isn't downloading properly. I tried your tip and it just made it all stretched out weird looking. Before it wasn't even showing up. There is something about this site that doesn't allow me to download pics from it to my computer for some reason.

It seems there is one going inside the barrel.

Edit. But in this other picture Iooks like a securing device of sorts.

Look closer....there's a muzzle peg to support the front end.

One of Patton's drivers was from Alabama and had painted "War Eagle" on his jeep. Was this your uncle?

Actually he was born in Hurley, WI, enlisted for the duration in motor operations and was picked by Patton for reasons he never knew. He was reassigned after Patton lost part of his command briefly after his slapping incident. I believe the General had a few different drivers for the rest of the war once he regained command. The article was written in a local paper around July 1943. The other picture shows him with sachel, a bag, and the General's coat standing on the sidewalk in Italy. I have never found the newsreel the article refers to, but am still looking.

He donated his Army uniform and memorabilia to a small local museum in Hurley before he died, including what he said was a large Nazi flag that Patton ripped down from a government building in one of the towns in Italy and gave to my uncle. Of course back then, we never talked about the war. Too bad because he would have had fascinating stories to tell.

I believe it's sort of like an early tyler T grip. If you look at the picture of the guy holding his 2 revolvers, you can see it's still on the gun there. So I don't think it's a wall hangar.

Actually, there a three different items being seen in these pics. All pics of the gun show the early S&W grip adapter, which was an elaborate device mounted under and retained by the stocks. The pic of the gun depicting the initials in the stock show the gun mounted, right side, by a muzzle post and a hook under the rear of the trigger guard. The third picture showing the gun mounted on the left side with the description underneath, appears to be a secure mount around the trigger guard, probably from a mobile display.
I once saw Patton's .357 on display at a Birmingham gun show several years ago and it appeared to be securely locked into that display case, for obvious reasons. It was also displayed with his General Officer's belt & holster rig. Quite an impressive looking firearm, with all it's history!

Question

That fellow in the video could not resist spinning the cylinder on Patton's S&W every chance he got. Wonder how many times he's spun the cylinder and snapped it into the revolver Hollywood style when the camera is not running?
