Post war 1917 Commercial value
I have one of the 998 1917 Army Post War Transitional revolvers and I'm having a really hard time trying to put a value on it. Searching all the usual sources and the post war commercials just don't show up for sale. I've shown this one here before, it has the windage adjustable rear sight modification along with a modified front sight. The gun is in pretty nice condition. I'm thinking of passing it along but have absolutely no idea. I would sure appreciate some opinions. Thanks,
Stu

I have the impression one of these in nice original condition would be in the $1000-1200 range; not sure how the modifications factor into that value.

That's pretty much why I'm confused Alan. SCSW for this model shows ANIB $5000, Exc $3500 and VG $2000. A refinished version that was discussed here sold on Gunbroker for $1300. Tough when there are few around.

Here's S210775, one of the very last manufactured I think. Unfortunately refinished, and not too carefully, in nickel. I paid $225 for it as I remember about 15 years ago. The "rarity" factor is interesting so I've kept it; still tight, so ok as a shooter. Value? I guess maybe $500-$600. I think yours should be in the $1,000 range, maybe more.

Do you know who did the modifications to the front and rear sight. Look like a very professional job.
The only way to know what it worth is to offer it for sale at a price of XXXX
and if it sells you were to low.

I think those value estimates may be a tad optimistic...but they may be based on actual sales, no way to tell.
