1917 S&w 45 acp
Just bought this wonderful revolver. I noticed a paper disc under the star ejector. I wonder if this was a shipping disc. It’s pretty much deteriorated. I have never seen this on any of my other S&w revolvers.
Also can these guns handle full power loads. I’m shooting 200 gr lead and 5.3gr unique

Good for you, getting a neato Model 1917! Please let us see photographs!
They are magnificently wonderful revolvers. I've owned a couple in my lifetime and still have one on hand.
They can handle standard velocity factor loads and handloaded equivalent. Don't ask me how I know this but they can handle +P type loads too, however there is no point in straining the hooey out of a now 100 year old gun with overly heavy loads.

I have never seen this on any S&w revolver. Could it be s shipping disc?

We understand your question. But the reason some have asked for photos of it is to help try to determine the answer.
Many questions about S&Ws can be difficult to answer or there is no known answer. I for one, have never heard of a shipping paper disc as you describe. But we learned long ago to never say never about S&Ws.
If I had to give an answer with a gun to my head, I'd say no, not factory.
And if I had to guess, I'd say someone shimmed the extractor star for reliable ignition. I'd shoot the gun with and w/o the disc and determine if you have FTFs (failure to fire) without the disc.

A shim under the ejector star would be an interesting way to eliminate endshake and keep a tight barrel to forcing cone gap. But, using paper would be a little bit Bubba style.

Wouldn't be a very long lasting fix if that's what it was for. A brass or other metal would make for a more permanent fix.
