"civilian" model 1917?
LGS has a S&W, N frame, five screw, 5 1/2" , .45 acp revolver with a lanyard ring with diamond walnuts which are numbered to the gun. Gun and stocks are in great shape, minimal loss of bluing. s/n S2106xx, they are asking $1,000.00. Sorry no pics, my question is, is this fail price?. Gun looks like my 1917 but with better finish and no military markings.

No, because that serial number is within the Commercial 1917 post war revolvers in which only approx. 1000 were made.

Sounds like a good price for a decent condition Commercial 1917.
Wish mine was in the condition you describe, but then I wouldn't have been able to afford it if it were, and it still functions and shoots just fine

It's a fairly rare gun, and depending on how great is "great shape" it's an excellent price for a "postwar Transitional" 1917.

This scarce version of the commercial 1917s is known by collecters as a "1917 Army Post war Transitional Model" Transitional because it's very like the pre war model but with the addition of the post war sliding bar improved hammer block safety, but not yet the 1917 Model of 1950 changes.

Most in your number range were 1947. $1000 is a fair price contingent about it's original finish %.

The original description may not be as precise as we would like, but
"Gun and stocks are in great shape, minimal loss of bluing"
certainly sounds like it could be a bargain at $1,000.

Here's my postwar transitional in what I feel is in excellent condition. I also paid more than a grand for it and still feel like I got a great deal on it! If the one you spied is in similar condition, I wouldn't wait another minute to go snag it.

Thanks to all who replied, I called the LGS and reserved the gun until next week when I can get there. The gun has no loss of blue at the muzzle or anywhere else. The is a faint turn line and no loss of blue on the recoil shield. Looking forward to picking it up.

If the finish is original, you're stealing it.
Look around for the PO-lice before you step out with it.

Finish looks to be original but I'm no expert. All of the stamps, patent dates etc are sharp and not rubbed out. Trigger and hammer still in case hardening. LGS seller also thinks no a re-finish.
