Age of m.15?
My friend bought a S&W model 15 at a gun show. The refinish is made obvious by the fact that everything got plated - hammer , trigger , sights , the works. No "B" or "N" stamped on the grip frame. I found it interesting that all of the stampings were crisp , the side plate seam as tight as original. The only exception is the last digit of the serial number on the butt. I am mostly posting this to ask for someone to determine the year the revolver was made. There is no model number on the crane. There is a screw on the trigger guard.
He got a good shooter price.
Thank you , 'Ski.
EDIT ---I correct myself: My friend bought a refinished Combat Masterpiece. I apologize for being so slow.

It looks in the first picture like the plating on the hammer is distinctly different from the sideplate in color. Is this just the lighting? It wouldn’t be the first time that someone plated the trigger and hammer on an otherwise already nickeled gun. I’m not sure whether the post-war N on the grip frame should be there in that time frame, though.

That thought crossed my mind too. I'll get a comprehensive picture at my next opportunity.
FWIW , my friend paid remembers $270. I would have been tempted...

ca.1954 is correct. I agree there is something goofy with the hammer. The shape is weird, and it is plated; it should be case colored. S&W never plated or nickeled the hammer or trigger on a model 15. This may be an interesting thread when you can get us some better photos.

I do list a K-22 SN K213xxx which shipped in 8/55. But yours is in the 1954 manufacture SN range. At that time it was a .38 Combat Masterpiece, not yet a Model 15.

DWALT - Shortly after I posted the thread starter I edited to correct myself re: "Combat Masterpiece" and to admit my embarrassment over the blunder. I know better.
Thanks for the date info.

Images as per request ...
Note the slight difference in color from side plate to frame. The stampings look crisp to me. The seam is pretty good too. Are the screw holes dished slightly?
