Default 1917 Brazilian Contract .45

Does anyone know what type of finish the Brazilian contract model 1917's were delivered with?? This one has been parkerized and I feel like it is probably not the original finish. It has the Brazilian emblem with 1937 stamped on the right side plate and D.A. 45 on the left of the barrel. S/N 205315.

Looks really good. I love parkerizing or matte blue. I feel like it's a better finish for a serious gun. And more grip choices look better with it. But polished blueing looks better for just looks wise.

It might just be the lighting but it looks like you're trigger and Hammer might have been chromed also. The one I have and the ones that I have seen are much darker.

Default Brazil Contract 45acp

All left the factory in blue, however some served in WWII with the Brazilian Army. They (a small number) may have been updated for the war. When these were imported into the US they were loosely packed and most look like the were drug behind a Ford PU. So some of them were parked by dealers to move them on. I have owned both and all were great shooters. S&W shines thru no matter the finish. Here ia what I have for my "go to" response at home.

I have the original style stocks that came with the 1937 but they are truly hard to come by in good condition so I replaced them with a set I bought from a member here.

Mine is one from the group made in 1937 with the flat top receiver. Has
the very dark, almost black, original blue finish with some light scratches
and original, but non matching, grips. A great shooter with cast bullet
handloads in AR brass.

Very nice! And I’ve had the same experience with .45AR in my M1917. Mine is much more accurate with AR than ACP.

I've got one that was refinished nicely, although in order to get as much pitting as possible it appears to have received some serious metal removal in particular around the Brazilian Crest, however I appreciate the work done was probably done by hand with the inspection plate in place as the fit and finish in that area is nice. I looked at a Brazilian model yesterday that although refinished nicely was obviously done with the plate removed, so that the fit has that rounded look...turns me off instantly. I'd rather see a large pit left in an area not highly visible that see that type of metal removal.
These revolvers are special to me partly due to the fact that my first .45 ACP/AR revolver was a Brazilian model and got me involved with shooting that caliber in a revolver, something I highly recommend to anyone that likes to shoot handguns.
