More Pre-27 love.........

Although I am still not among the fortunate members of Registered Magnum owners club......I really enjoy the Pre-27's when I can get my hands on them.
Currently own three 3.5" versions including my treasured Rudy Marek engraved piece, a very nice 5" and super clean 6.5" all with ship dates ranging from 1950 to 1957

Very nice, and great pictures too. What's the magic that keeps all three guns in focus even at different depths of field?

That is a very nice collection of one of the finest revolvers ever to roll off the assembly line. Now off to find the elegant 8.375" Barrel and the classic 6" Barrel.

A .357 Magnum from 1956 was my first .357 Magnum. I found it in Casanova's Gun shop while visiting in Milwaukee. I bought it to shoot PPC back before the purpose built guns and put a whole lot of rounds through it Of course I still have it along with a host of friends!

It is still my favorite firearm. And the pre-27s are my favorite. If they are not the best, they are right up there with the best.

The smaller the aperture (but larger the f number), the greater the depth of field. If you manually set the aperture to f16 or f22 and the distance to infinity, everything from maybe 12 or 18 inches to infinity will be in focus.

Jeff,

No secret at all, and wish I could take the credit......but the fact is that I use a Cannon PowerShot SX280HS camera with the setting on "AUTO" and no flash. The camera does it's thing and the photos need little if any editing.

Rudy was a friend of mine and we shared adjacent tables each month at our local gun show for many years. His son Dean still comes to our shows occasionally, and is trying to collect as many of his dad's engraved guns as possible.
That's a nice example of Rudy's workmanship you have there!

Rudy was also a good friend of my buddy Hayes Otoupalik who put me in contact with Rudy's son Dean.
Hayes purchased the Civil War Napoleon cannon from the estate when Rudy passed.

Dean and his brothers are going to dig through the records to see if they can find an invoice for this 3.5" Pre-27 so I can put the information with the gun.

I also picked up a copy of Rudy's book about his trip to Alaska.

The family has not approached me about purchasing the gun from me......but they know where it is......but it's one of my favorite S&W's and will not be going anywhere for a while.

Rudy got "born again" later in life, and some people avoided his testimony. But he was a great guy, and one of the most talented people I ever knew. The Fox TV show "Strange Inheritance" did an episode on Rudy Marek featuring his sons and lots of old movies of Rudy. You can catch re-runs every few months.

Yes, I saw the episode. It was titled "Cannon Father" and they did a good job on it. I recorded it, but never did figure out how to get it off my cable DVR to put on a CD. We changed cable companies and I lost it.
Checked on Fox Business internet site and couldn't find it there. Maybe they'll repeat it again so I can record it again.
I liked the interview with Hayes and his comments of how he met Rudy, and eventually bought the cannon. But they didn't detail how the auction went for the cannon. When it came up Hayes tossed out a bid so high that nobody bid against him. A one bid auction.
