Sideplate screws
Does anyone know a source for original, blued, sideplate screws for pre war Revolvers? Or, a place that will restore them to original? Thanks, Big Larry

Several sellers are on eBay, but they are not cheap.

I have taken some of the older screws and polished them and re-blued them to try and match and some have turned out real well. I use a Pin Vice to hold the screws while polishing and bluing. I have squirreled away a small quantity one at a time when ever I find one that's good enough.

I have been very pleased with the quality, fit and finish of sideplate and strain screws purchased from the eBay-seller gun-garage. These have a high-gloss finish. As mentioned above, they are not cheap but are first-class. (I don’t think I will get dinged for posting this information.)

I certainly hope not. This is great information for those of us in need of sideplate screws. Thanks for taking the time to post this. Big Larry

Try cleaning up the screw heads
As I mentioned in another one of your posts, and as H Richard points out- try cleaning up the original screws up yourself, if they're not too awful. It only takes a matter of minutes to smooth off the burrs and re-cut the slot. A little cold blue and they'll be as good as new. Then your revolver stays unmodified and original. Just sayin'...

I'm the most unhandy person on planet Earth , a few buggered up screws on a old model 10 gave me a cause to try fixing them. Downloaded some simple instructions , had a set of Swiss needle files . Peened metal back in place , cut slot and smoothed top .
Followed the instructions and it was simple...restored them and did the heat blue , they looked great.
Now if I can do it....anybody can do it and it sure beats trying to run down the correct screw for an old gun.

My disabilities keep me from doing small work with my hands. I really appreciate all the feedback on my post, but buying the screws seemed to be the best way yo go. I will post the results when the screws come. Many thanks to all. Big Larry
