Welcome to the forum. You are in the right place to identify your gun, however we will need considerably more information that just a serial number. Look right above your post to find a bit of information titled "To identify your gun". Add that information to your post and there will be folks here that will help you out.

Welcome to the forum. Nightowl is spot on with his suggestion.
If you can post some nice clear pictures, that will help very much.
A wild guess without enough information would be the gun was manufactured around 1978. But, lets get more info before we bet on that.

SN 23 K 8683 indicates that you have some variation of the so-called K-series revolvers such as the K-22 (Model 17) or K-38 (Model 14) - but there are other possibilities. These will all have adjustable rear sights. Precisely what you have will require a more complete description, such as caliber and barrel length, and a picture would help. But that serial number would have been manufactured in 1977.

Welcome to the Forum. Series # 23 k 8683... Could you be referring to an ultra-rare Model 23 with serial number K8683 which should not exist with K prefix?? What are the 3 dots after the number signify - more numbers?
We need much more detailed information and photos to help you out.

I would like to see a picture.
You know, a picture equals 10,000 words, etc.
