Default New to forum

Hello, I am new to this forum and just recently became a S&W owner. I have wanted one for years, but never took the time to research the different models and always seemed to find something else that caught my eye at the time. This weekend, I was able to purchase a very nice condition K38 with 4" barrel. After doing some research and asking some questions, I was told it is a '5 screw' made in the late 40's early 50's. I picked up two boxes of 158 gr Lead 38's and had a blast shooting it yesterday. Why did I wait so long???

Welcome to the forum, this is a very educational place. Congrats on your recent purchase. The K-frame .38 special is a classic.

Welcome. You certainly picked a superb revolver for your first choice. (It's entirely possible that you'll not wait that long to purchase another.)

Welcome aboard. I love shooting my K-38's. These are the newer Model 14: K-38 Masterpiece. The first one pictured has a 8 3/8" barrel and the second one is a 6"er.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! The 4" K38 is known as the Combat Masterpiece with a Baughman Ramp front sight as opposed to Beecherkid's K38 Masterpieces with 6" barrels and Patridge front sights. If you will give us the SN beginning K and first 2 or 3 digits with the last 3 XX'd out, we may be able to get you closer to when it shipped. Also, you can probably tell we like pictures...<hint, hint>... Here's my Combat Masterpiece.

Howdy Keith, and welcome aboard from Wyoming.

1952

Some of the other folks should be along to narrow that down for you.

Your .38 Combat Masterpiece is from 1952. An excellent choice for your first S&W revolver. I have one at K157xxx that shipped in October, 1952.

Welcome to the Forum and to the wonderful world of shooting S&W revolvers! Stick around, there are lots of great guys on this web site.

Welcome to the forum. You will find that there are a lot of very nice women and men here, with a massive amount of knowledge. I know that in the last 8 years I have learned a lot from them. Fun but costly knowledge.
