Default Help with age/value of 5 screw

Received this revolver from the estate of my wife's grandparents. Need help with age and value. Looks like I have a nickel, 5 screw hand ejector, serial # 670XXX, 4" barrel marked "38 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG.", fixed sights and there is a strain screw in the front gripstrap. (I read the "To IDENTIFY your Gun" sticky )

Probably late 1930's or around 1940.

No idea on value.

670xxx indicates that your M&P probably left the factory sometime in 1937. At a gun show, assuming the nickel plating is original and it has no mechanical problems, I'd think it would probably be priced in the $400-$450 range. The grips on it are original and add somewhat to its value.

I reckon what DWalt meant to say is the grips are period correct, and if the number (if any) stamped on the inside of the right hand panel matches the serial number of the gun---they are also original.

My condolences on her loss. That is a nice one, and the nickel finish will clean up very nicely. I use Mothers Mag found at most auto parts stores others use Flitz found at some gun shops.

… and yes there is a number on the inside of the grip (difficult to read) and yes it matches the serial number.

Thank you very much to each of you.
