Default Anyone ever seen a British proofed 44 3rd? **ADDED PICS**

I found a late thirties 44 3rd with all matching numbers including stocks that has British proofs on the left side of barrel and frame like the 455’s plus proof stamps on the cylinder at each charge hole.

Anyone seen a 44 3rd that got shipped over to the Brits?

Pictures Added with letter. Shipped on September 26, 1941 to J. L. Galef Co, NY:

It might have gone there when the Brits were asking for arms in the early days of WW II.

Somewhat like this one from 1931 (although there seems to be nothing on the cylinder)? No specific conclusions regarding that gun in that thread beyond generic explanations of British proofing, but at least you know yours isn't a unicorn

British Proofs ?

Thanks for the info. Based on that thread it looks like this one was proofed in 1960. I'll be inquiring on the ship date but the next consecutive serial shipped in July 1941 to Seattle as a 6.5" nickel 44 3rd.

This one is all numbers matching including the stocks with great lock-up. The finish looks matte so I'm not sure if it was bead blasted or refinished in matte at some point maybe? The barrel was chopped to 4.5" and the front sight was reattached over the patent info.

Wink IT PASSED!!!

As close as I come to anything with a 3 in it is a NM #3 Target in .32-44 S&W. It was shipped to England in 1894, and came back with two proof marks on the barrel, and one in each cylinder flute.

I don't know why they feel like they have to mess things up with those marks---everybody knows they proof all the foreign stuff (probably their own stuff too). If you see a gun in England, and it's all in one piece, you know it's passed.

Anything shipped prior to the Victory finishes was standard polished blue (if it wasn’t nickel), so any bead-blasted or other appearance indicates a refinish, probably at the same time as the barrel surgery.
