Manufacture date or ship date - .38-44
I know that there is a rule when one posts a request of a manufacture or ship date but I cannot recall what it is and I cannot find the rule! Sorry if I did this wrong!
S&W .38-44 HD
SN 37058
My SCSW burned up in last year's fire. Not the only book I lost for sure! So I can't look up this serial number until I get another copy.
Some of my guns burned up, too, just a few, and some just got wet. Nothing got to this old gun because it was deep inside my safe. OH FOR JOY!

The closest HD SN I have listed to 37058 is another 370xx which shipped in 12/30. Unlikely it shipped much earlier than that, but it easily could have shipped later.

I love those vintage, aged stag grips.

I looked at several later than his serial number that shipped in 12/30 and some around his serial number that shipped 11/30. Only Roy can tell us. It could have been on the bottom of the pile and shipped even later.

A story

I have to tell you this short story. That .38-44 sat under glass in my LGS for a very long time. Back then (which is not very long ago, actually - 2012 at the time or maybe already 2013) I did not know what it was but I could see that it was a good looking, LARGE revolver. I owned plenty of guns and I had a number of S&W revolvers and I had commenced to buying more S&W revolvers "just because" and one afternoon I asked to see it. When the proprietor let me handle it and explained its significance I was sold and it was that very day that he recommended that I come onto the S&W Forum and join the SWCA. That's why that revolver is my Forum avatar!

I took advantage of the Shipping Date Request Forum - there were NO open requests so I couldn't resist.

Saw that. We'll soon know.
Anyone want to bet against 1Aspenhill? (Not this guy, that's for sure!)

Roy's reply:

Greg, .38/44 HD serial 37058 was shipped in January 1931. I hope that this helps. Roy

January 1931 is SO CLOSE to 1930 that it is virtually the same thing so I'm good with either date! And the manufacture date MUST be in 1930!
I wonder what it's worth...................................................?
