Default 1920's M&P .38?

Hi, I got this .38 at a gun show back in the 90's and am wondering about its history. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. It's indeed from the 1920s...I THINK pretty early in the 20s. It appears to be in nice condition.

Indeed. Likely early 1922; it is missing the MADE IN U.S.A which started in mid-1922, at a serial not too far from this one (although I don't recall whether there is a specific one, it occurred in the 40xxxx range).

It looks to be not only in very nice, but also all-original condition with correct and likely matching stocks. Check the back of the right panel for a penciled serial number.

I would guess $325 + or - $25 for a value (they made zillions of them)

I happen to have two Model 1905 4th Changes. One is earlier than yours with a 6" barrel and the other later than yours with a 5" barrel.

The oldest is SN: 373350 and is from March 1921. The newer one is SN: 577063 and was shipped on Nov. 19, 1929.

The 1929 revolver has seen some use as a nail or tack hammer maybe repairing fences or putting up wanted posters.

Nice first post. Fine old revolver.
I'll bet that your M&P (correct reference for that vintage?) is worth more today than when you acquired it?
It never ceases to amaze me how many grip butts of that era are dinged up as in posts 1 & 6.
