Default RM 2112

Hey guys I thought I'd share my Christmas present with you. It is RM #2112. It has a 5" barrel and a king reflector sight. It has the original finish and doesnt appear to have ever been back to s&w. I picked it up on armslist. It shipped with a horrid set of plastic wannabe elk stag grips. It shows its age but has been well taken care of over the years. I need to letter it and find an appropriate set of stocks. What do you guys think?

Happy new year everyone!

That’s the unfortunate thing about a safe queen, it has no character, no stories to tell.

Congrats on such a cool piece.

After taking another closer look at some of your pictures I can't help but notice the rear sight does not follow the contour of the front of frame. Bet the rear sight is a King also!?

Yes sir it is a King rear sight! After seeing the last pics I had to get my Pre Woodsman out of the safe that has the whole King super target set up. Does my pictures look similar?

Oh HALE yeah!
I don't have 25 bones to put into a gun, but if I did, that one would be a good candidate to pry it out of my grubby little hands.
2112 is and always will be THE quintessential RUSH album - AND song.

First, congratulations on your RM purchase! I tried to send you a PM but your stored message quota has been exceeded. Anyway, check out this Forum link for the stocks you need. It looks like there is an available set of pre-war Magnas like you are looking for that are the perfect condition for your RM:
FS: Pre War S&W grips, Tyler T’s, Colts and Herretts
Good luck.

Congratulations on that fine RM. From the apparent holster wear on the bbl and high points I think it has a good chance of being a former LEO revolver. If you letter it and get additional information, please share it with us.

Looks like a King (or "Micro") rear sight to me.

Congrats and thanks for sharing with the rest of us,

Not that my opinion matters, but I think that's a fine looking RM. A revolver whose appearance suggests that it's actually done something during its lifetime. Holster wear is obvious...and beautiful.

The only thing I'd do for that gun is find a decent looking age-appropriate set of stocks for it. I wouldn't look for brand new ones...only vintage ones, even if they were real stag and cost a fortune. I believe (my opinion again) is that new ones would not look "right", considering the overall appearance of that revolver.

A salute to you for your most excellent acquisition!

I'm jealous. I'd love to find one similar that I could shoot without feeling guilty. And at a great price!

Personally, I LOVE the patina. It's like a perfectly broken-in pair of jeans. Another member, I think Sixgunstrumpet, has shown a RM with much more signs of use, and I think that one looks great, too.
The King sights confirm that it was likely owned and used by someone who knew a fine gun.
It's worthy of one's best efforts at the loading bench and casting pot to create some fine lead bullet loads!

Jim

You guys are funny with the Rush 2112 references. It's the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the thread title, too!

This thing will see nothing but custom ammo while it's in my hands... I'm too cheap to by factory ammo.

I think you did well, especially with the King sights! Can't tell for sure from your pics, but the barrel may have been cut. The rib looks nearly flush with the muzzle, unlike the set back rib on factory muzzles, as shown in picture below. Be sure to letter and get S&WHF documents on that one. Enjoy!!

My Reg Mag has the King treatment and the rear site looks the same, but it is clearly marked "KING":

Front site is marked too:

Thumbs up

I like that RM because it has character but no abuse that I can see. I noticed right away that the sideplate screws are not buggered up! No amateur gunsmithing. The internals may have accumulated dried oil and dust.

I have one shootable RM(KCPD) but somehow I have never fired it.

Well Bob, from one Iowegan (born & raised there but now in the Old Dominion) to another, you need to take corrective action on that, and then post a thread with a range report and some pictures of that KCPD RM!RM 2112

Well, I purchased the grips and to my great disappointment they are warped and will not work after I dropped $325 on them. The seller was not willing to take these back and told me to pound sand. Be careful out there guys, some snakes in the grass!

You could try steaming them and then weighting them down to warp them back flat.

WOW! I've never seen anything like that. The seller's reaction is very disappointing.

Yes, I’m sorry I gave you that lead in post #14 flyfishinjunkee. The warping was not evident in the pictures that were posted here on the Forum (which have now been removed) and I would not have expected that from a Forum Silver Contributor.

Agreed, very disappointing that a member of this forum would not make that right.
Those are not $325 stocks, grips, whatever you want to call them.

I am sorry that someone here has treated you that way. Please post a link to the WTS add so that we can all see what they were supposed to be.

ETA - if the seller deleted or modified the add after the sale, one of our moderators can restore it and lock it up so that it is preserved as a record.

Please be sure to post feedback on the for-sale side so that everyone knows who we need to look out for.

IMHO - Those are not usable in their present condition, and if it were my transaction, I would be sending them back.

Default Kings Out

Wow, what a Great Christmas Present. Those Old
Registered Magnums are neat. I really enjoyed the Pictures.
The King Sights are really cool too!

Please give a Range Report when you shoot that Cool RM.

The Best to you and your Endeavors. Tight Lines.

That’s very unfortunate about the shady sale. Looks like it was done at a profit even (‘Bay auction Magnas)

Sweet looking RM nonetheless. Have you sent for a letter to confirm barrel length? I have a King modified OD that is a sweet shooter.

Well, luckily the seller refunded my $ today and I wanted everyone to know that he made it right. I also purchased another set from another member which are nicer. As soon as I receive them I'll update this post again (and go shoot this thing!).

Yes I requested a letter to confirm barrel length and other details! I'm expecting it back pretty soon as i've already had an inquiry from the historians on the gun. Thanks.

I am glad to hear that the seller did the right thing (eventually). I will be waiting to see your next update

Love those old RM's. Please let us know what your letters tell you.

On the other matter, it's too bad that you got a runaround on the stocks sale. You can always use the 'Feedback' category on this forum to express your feelings. I once bought a gun from a fellow member only to find it had someones SS# electro-penciled onto the frame. Also had some mis-represented parts. The seller would not stand behind any of it. I looked up his past posts that he had started, and found almost every one of them was when he was selling something. It looked as if the only reason for being on the forum was to use it as his storefront. Now I always check a seller's history before I buy.

I finally obtained a proper set of magnas for this old 357 thanks to a kind and honest forum member. I also took a little time and got it cleaned up. Looking much better even with my sub-par photos! Time to go grab some of my 357 reloads and see how she shoots!

Those look great on your gun! It had an interesting life, maybe lawman's gun? I hope you get more pieces of the puzzle when your letters arrive. Whoever owned it wanted the Best handgun, with the Best sights, and used it!

Awesome looking RM to me! Don't misunderstand, I do love a pretty safe queen, and lordy there are some dandys on this forum, but any pristine gun I've ever owned made me nervous handling it. Not some new plastic gun, but really nice older rifles and handguns.

I've owned a few over the years, but decided it's not for me. If I were to ever find a RM, I'd like one with character. Something I wasn't afraid of putting the first ding in. Did it once with a really nice 1911 from the late 40's, made me sick (no, it wasn't an "idiot mark"), well, I guess it was, I dropped it, from about 12" and it hit my safe on the way to the floor. But that's another story.

I don't have 25 Bens to drop on a gun like that anyway, so I'll have to be luckier than the OP to own one. Those stocks in post #46 are a perfect match for it. I am so jealous, but happy to hear they are still out there.
