If it is a .38 special m&p then those are tough to nail down unless somebody got a letter for a gun fairly close to your number. They started in 1915 with #241704 and went all the way to 1942 with #700000 But I would say 1915 or 1916 on yours. Should have service stock with gold medallions for grips and if you check under right side grip you may have your serial written there in pencil.

Purely coincidentally there is a batch of M&P’s documented in the 2514xx serial range which shipped to the Conservation Commission in New York in April 1916.

I’d expect your specimen to come from that vicinity too.

No lanyard ring. It's a 4 inch 38spcl in excellent condition with the owners info pencilled inside the grip panels and his WW1 military service no. etched into the side plate. Probably had an interesting life story. Wish it could talk. Thanks for all the help. Ron
