Help with dating a no dash 4 screw 27
I just picked up a model 27 no dash 4 screw. I'm new to S&W revolvers. I only started getting interested in .357 mag after buying a .357 lever rifle, buying all the stuff to reload 357s, and then coming to the inevitable conclusion I now need a revolver in 357. That's the way it goes. The finish on this gun is so clean it photographs like it's silver but it's really a beautiful deep blue. I don't see any stamps where it looks to have been re-ferbed in any way. I'm sure the grips are aftermarket though they do have the S&W logo on them. Anything unique or interesting about this gun? I'm guessing its about a 1960 - 61. SN S210348
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Wayne

For what it's worth I have a Model 27 serial S 199543 that shipped
5/19/60. Going by the serial I would think yours would be a few months later, maybe early 1961.

Welcome to the forum. For reference SN S209632 is an 8 3/8" Model 27 that shipped in November 1960.
Here she is with a set of Keith Brown custom grips:
Congrats on the acquisition - you started at the pinnacle of revolver evolution. The N-Frame .357 Magnum model 27 is one of the finest handguns to ever roll off the S&W assembly lines.
Thanks for sharing,

Thanks for the replies. I'm just realizing that though I've been a forum member since 2013 this was my first post.
Honestly I've never handled a finer functioning revolver.

That's a beautiful Model 27 surfanarchist. Yes. You're right about the stocks being replacements.
Target stocks of that vintage, or even magnas for that matter can get a little pricey, but if I were you, I would definitely make the effort to locate a pair.
Best of luck with your new Smith & Wesson!

Usually when someone asks for dating help I suggest candy or flowers. However, since this is a S&W we are talking about try gun oil or Renaissance Wax.
Just kidding, couldn't resist....
