Welcome! I suspect this might be best valued with a professional appraisal from a Smith & Wesson specialist dealer, or selling it at auction. There are several avid collectors of engraved guns here but unless they have (or have seen) a similar gun any guesses would be pure speculation.

Yes, you need a Specialist appraisal, the value can be off by well over 4 figures. One that comes to mind is David Carroll, Tussville AL, [email protected] .

Welcome to the forum. That's a stunning pre-model 27 but way outside my ability to offer a estimate on value. When you get into one of a kind revolver like that one the sky is the limit. There are some members here that may be able to help.

Welcome from Pennsylvania!
As to the revolver, it's old and scratched up, I'll offer you $500 for it.

Don't forget that it is refinished, and not by the factory. That said, it would be welcom at my home ! The resident expert in engraved S&W is RKMesa in my opinion.

I am not familiar with Woody Ward's work, but the engraving seems to be nicely done and from what I can see in the photos, I like the scene on the right side plate. In general, auctions with one of the large auction houses or with reputable sellers on Gunbroker would be the way to maximize value. Recommendations of George Dye and David Carroll are good references, both of whom regularly broker sales of nice S&Ws. If you really want to get a closer value, quality photos with good light are a must to see the detail and quality of the engraving. With the photos that you have, my expectation is that value could range anywhere from $3K to $10K...
I think this was your post a few years ago on the engravers cafe, which was the only Woody Ward post I could find on the net (I did not have access to increase the size of the photos):
Woody Ward Engraver | The Engraver's Cafe
We would love to see more photos and some of those photos of the Woody Ward post cards.
Thanks for sharing with us and all the best,
