Default ID help on older smith .38

Got sent these pics by a friend. Wondering on model, age, and value. Looks to be a 5 screw with a strain screw on the strap. Judging from the SN, maybe late 19-teens?

Thanks in advance

It's a S&W Military and Police model (aka Model of 1905, 4th Change). The closest SN I have on file to this one is 2428xx which shipped in 8/1915. The grips on it are of the style used during the 1930s, and are therefore not correct for its age. However, the grips have some value all by themselves, and should be preserved. It is not in very high condition which affects its value, and it would be of no interest to a collector. I'd say you might see one close to it priced around $300-$350 at a gun show.

Thanks for all the info. Found out it was carried by my buddy's grandfather who was an MP during wwII. I'm going to purchase it from him.
