DOS help needed
I have a 32 HE 2nd mod of 1903 5th change. SN is 226773. Grip bottom says "Pat June 5, 1917", but they may not be original. I'd appreciate help narrowing the date range of 1910-1917.
Thanks!

That is a Regulation Police, if the serial number is on the front strap. The SCSW shows the RP starting at about serial number 260000 in 1917. You may have one of the earliest RPs.

But my SN is 226733 on butt/cyl/und bbl/extr. And it is a round butt with grips making it look like a square butt. RPs start at 260000 and are square butt.

Did you have to remove the grips to see the serial number on the grip frame butt?

The earliest .32 RP's SN was around 258xxx, so it cannot be that. I list a Model 1903 (fifth change) having SN 228074, as shipping in 3/1916. That is as close as I can get. Looks to me that the grips on it are from the 1930s, and not original (confirmed by the later patent date). The picture makes it look as though it may have been refinished.

Pre war RPs have a round, rebated butt, combined with square grips, like the ones you have.

You have a .32 Hand Ejector.
Based on the medallions, the grips are for a Regulation Police from 1930 to ~1941. What's the serial # on backside of the right grip?

To me, the date of the revolver can be narrowed down quickly. It does not have the MADE IN USA stamp, making it before 1922-1923. The gun has the large mushroom ejector rod knob, making it before 1927-1928. The stocks have a silver medallion as mentioned above, which were not available until the 1930s, so they will not match. The 32 RPs of the 1920s have convex no medallion stocks like my 311,XXX, shipped in 1920. Lastly, those from the late teens should have gold washed medallions.
