S/N 140743 -5 screw ,5" barrel sq service grips /with out medallions.made in USA on right side of frame ,last patent date Dec 29 14, 32/20 right side of barrel, smith & wesson on left side of bbl. finish 90%

Very late in the model‘s history, production in the late 1920s, shipment quite possibly not after production ceased and they just delivered from existing stocks from about 1930 to 1940.
For value, we‘ll need to wait for pictures. Could be anything from 250 to 600 depending on condition; these are not inherently very valuable or sought after, so condition is everything.

It was built in the late '20s. Only a letter will tell when it shipped. Value probably around $400 or so.

Production was probably not earlier than 1928 or sometime late in 1927. But in any case, it is near the end of the run. Serial numbers only went to 144684, and production probably ended in 1929, no later than 1930.
Made in U.S.A. first showed up in the spring of 1922. Likewise the cartridge designation changed from 32 W.C.F. CTG to 32-20 CTG in May, 1922.

1905 4th Change Target #114655, shipped August 21, 1923, upper 90's condition sold within last 6 months (+/-) for $1225 (thereabouts).

Very nice condition. If an excellent bore I put it at $500+. I've noticed over the years that well worn 32-20 M&Ps sell for much less than comparable 38 Special M&Ps. But examples in fine condition will sell for more than equivalent 38 special models. I believe it is a matter of ammo cost.
I have three 32-20 HEs. All showing much use and wear, though they still are good shooters. The most I've paid was $140.

Indeed, looks to be all original and in very nice condition.
It still has the mushroom-shaped ejector rod knob, so was likely assembled by 1927 or before. As mentioned before, the rapidly fading popularity of the caliber at the time means that manufacture and ship dates don‘t necessarily correlate very closely.

My 6" .32-20 1905 4th Change
I picked up this 6" 1905 4th Change (s/n 118705, mid-1920s) last year off GB for $475 (incl. s&h), which I thought was a fair price. Probably 85% bluing, but mechanically excellent and stocks are matching and in decent shape. This one also has the .32-20 roll mark, "Made in USA", and mushroom-shaped rod end, and it had an early grip adapter, too. At some point someone added a copper bead to the front sight blade- which I actually kind of like. For plinking, I bought some HSM .32-20 Cowboy Action 115 gr. round nose/flat point ammo. Enjoy!
