Oh its a happy day. I have been on the lookout for a nice K22 for awhile now. Looking on with jealous admiration every time a post comes up here with somebody finding their perfect K22 and posting beautiful pictures. I have 4 model 14's and had been holding out for a very early model with only "Made in usa" (a 1 liner) on frame but the stars aligned just right for me to get a slightly newer model. Best I can tell it's from early 1949, K 73567,they had just switched to the new 4 line registration stamp. The gun is not perfect and has been shot but is in really nice condition with the matte blue of the late 40's finish. I was shocked when nobody outbid me in last 20 minutes giving me the gun for only $556.06. I just won it on Gunbroker last night and usually wait until I get the gun, clean it then post pictures but I am so excited I just wanted to post a couple screenshots of the end auction. I think I lucked out on the deal and it shows good deals can still be had online. Hopefully the grips have matching numbers stamped inside. Its always exciting for me to get an older gun to clean and go through it for the first time. They usually come out looking and working just like new. I will have to post an update in a couple weeks when that day comes.

Looks to me like you did well. Nice K-22. I picked up a 1947 one-liner a few months back. Still haven't shot it yet. Shame on me.

You are probably correct, K 73567 should have shipped sometime around April 1949.

I must have misread my SCSW or misremembered what I read... I was thinking that was a 1948 vintage SN. I hope you’re right though, as it would put my K—22 in 1949 as well, which is my birth year!

CORRECTION: 73,000 is about the cut off between 1948 and 1949, and my K-22 and K-38 fall below this range (barely below, but below, nonetheless.). Congratulations on getting your K-22 from a truly vintage year.

Nice gun, great price. I'm looking for a "one liner" too but don't see them very often. There was one at last weekend's gun show; a three digit serial number but only in about 80% condition. Seller wanted $1599 (firm) for it saying he'd been offered $1500 "a couple times." Your's for a third of the price is a much, much better purchase. Enjoy.

You will find it very nice to shoot. I have a couple just a little newer, from 52 and 53. It may have tight chambers, causing difficult extraction after 20 to 50 rounds. If so don't hesitate to have the chambers reamed with a Standard finishing reamer. Many of us have done this with great results. I have done a half dozen K22, Mod 17's, Mod 18's, and even a K22 Outdoorsman. All function perfectly and no change in accuracy.

That's crazy for a K22 and he'll want 1599 for a long time before it sells. Heck I've purchased 2 K-22 ODs in the last few months and the total for the two was just slightly more then that.

There ARE bargains out there and you got one!

I bought my 1948 one liner 11 years ago for $400...didn't realize it was anything special until I joined here...too nice to haul around the woods, so I went out and bought one in a little more shooter shape. The second one is 1955 vintage and I too got a GB bargain in 2018 at $540.

Good on you. You will love it, tight chambers be dogged.

I pulled up the completed auction to look at all of the pictures and I think you did well at that price even if the stocks don't match. If they do match make that extremely well. I have K52276 that is in like condition and have about $725 in it. I've always thought these post war's with the matte finish and the tapered rib/barrel are in a class of their own.

Yes. I have a narrow rib K-38 Masterpiece with serial number K75711 that shipped in April, 1949.

There is a very good chance. They seem to fit perfectly and the shoulder style is correct for 1949. Be sure to let us know.

I guess I'm going to have to start monitoring GB again!!!

My first K22 was a very early one (with the barrel shaped knob) that I bought back around 1964 for, I think, about $100. Didn't keep it very long, I traded it off for a postwar Colt Match Woodsman. An even trade as I remember. Wish I still had the Woodsman.

Thank you all so far for the compliments and support. I guess I did muddy the water by putting a single sentence in about model 14's. My thought pattern is trying to make the trifecta. I have a model 14 no dash and 2 model 14-3's (6inch and 8 inch)and 1 model 14-7 with the full underlug. The closest gun to match and make a trifecta is the 1959 model 14 no dash but it has the heavy barrel so it really does not match up as far as weight to a 1949 narrow rib K22. I have couple pre war 38's with 6 inch barrel but no rib on them. So I guess it will be back to the drawing board for a pre model 14 narrow rib to make 2 out of 3 for a trifecta. Not much hope for a model 16 so I really should quit thinking in those terms. Lol I can not wait to get it and shoot it, I am sure it will not disappoint.

I got my 1948 vintage K-38 over 30 years ago and my Father talked me into "trading" it to him, which is probably a good thing, because he held onto it until just before his passing at which time he gifted it back to me. About 10 years or so ago I picked up my same vintage K-22 at an auction. Like you, I dreamed of a trifecta, but the best I was able to do was find an offer to get a late ('70s vintage) Model 16 barrel. I got a Model 14-3 and a random Model 17 barrel and had my own K-32 built... not a perfect trifecta, but the three calibers are covered. If I were able to get a '40s vintage narrow rib K-32 without taking a third mortgage on the house, I would, but at least now I don't have the extreme pressure on me to get some sort of K-32.

You know what? I've found that it is possible for me to enjoy any one of them individually though, but I'll bet having that sweet old vintage K-22 will put a new favorite in your herd. I love taking out any one of them to shoot, but of course if I take all three...

PS Since you already have the underlug Model 14-7, It would be fairly easy to build a trifecta of an underlug Model 17-6 and the least expensive and most abundant Model 16, the -4. Of course after you've shot the old K-22 and the early Model 14s, these Johnnie-come-latelys may not satisfy you without some fine tuning.

I picked up mine (1947) in Jan of 2013 at Cabela's in Reno for $650. Before anyone asks, yes, those are Culinas.

I have a K-22 that I got in a trade,A friend of mine wanted my Ruger SP101.38 snub and he was willing to trade me his K-22,the serial # on it is K42xxx, It came with the original Magnas, but I have a pair of K frame combats on it for now,

The story behind my 1948 vintage K-22 is that I went to a local gun auction. The auctioneer thinks he knows what he is doing but he knows very little about guns and not much more about how to organize an auction. As he has done several times at other auctions, he left a couple of the best items for very late in the auction... I guess he hopes that will keep the customers from leaving.

Anyway, this K-22 was within the last 10 items of an all day auction and everyone was get tired, had spent their money, or had left. As a result I got it for something just over $425 and was pleased to have it. It wasn’t until I got it home and cleaned it up I was able to confirm it was all matching and only about 10,000 numbers later than my K-38 (which at the time was still Dad’s.) I love it when a plan comes together!

Here they are after a recent trip to the range. Both show some blue thinning and honest wear, but that makes them just right to be my shooters!

I picked up my K-22 (3rd Model, early 4-liner) at a gun show a few years ago for $500. S/N K40403 puts it ca. 1948. All matching, including stocks, probably 85% blue, and it's definitely a shooter. As a matter of fact, I need to be careful with it because it's one of those that has a "hair trigger"...not sure it that was an intentional modification or just from wear.
