Default My first K-32, in a gold box

When I first started buying Smiths you could get a 5 screw N frame in collectable condition for $350. K32s were $1,000 and I did not buy one. Now they are $3,000. I finally had a chance to get one. It was stored in the box and sadly, has a little frosting on the barrel. The price was right and I want to be able to shoot it. Not sure why I have always wanted one so much, and I can't wait to try it out. I am going to set up the Dillion in 32 S&W.

I have one just like yours. It is a joy to shoot. My grandkids love it! Mine has never had a factory round through it since I've owned it.

I suggest you set it up for .32 S&W LONG. That's what your K-32 will like.

One of my biggest regrets is that when I first got back from 'Nam I didn't buy a K-32 Masterpiece to go with the K-22 and K-38. They were still available from the factory then and sold retail for about $130. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Like most of us, too soon old and too late smart. I think my father bought our K22 for $67, and I believe K32s were the same price. (Sigh.)

You don’t have to analyze why you would wanted one so much, you just wanted it! Shooting it brings out the real joy in owning a K-32 as it does with any of the Masterpiece series. I don’t think I could stand to own one that was a safe queen. Setting up your Dillon in 32 S&W (Long) is a great idea... you can set it up for a specific load your revolver likes and make a bunch of them!

How about some details about yours such as exact variant, special features, date of manufacture, etc? We love details here! Hope you will get lots of pleasure from it.

Froggie

Cool gun and story. Good thing you're the only one that has had a history of non-gun buying regret.

If all the parts are original, the production era of this one is fairly easy to narrow down - after about 1952 (rounded top Magna stocks) and before 1957 (speed hammer and five-screw frame). Of course, with the slow sales of this model it may not have shipped until...the 1980s?

Excellent find! Congratulations!
That right there is a major grail gun for many S&W collectors, including me. I've always wanted one, but have never actually seen one in person. When one does occasionally pop up on the auction sites, its well above my budget.

We'll, you've started down a .32 slippery slope. After the K32 was a 31-1 for me, then last fall I happened into a .32 kit gun. Now this winter I bought dies and almost 1000 dewc from a guy my Dad shoots with for almost nothing. He used to shoot one of those semi auto .32 S&W long competition guns and got out of it 10 years ago.

I shot the K32 today. After looking it over closely I think it was the first time it was ever shot. I put the first 4 rounds in to 1" group at 25 yards, my 60 year old eyes failed me on the last shot, and it landed 1 1/2" out. I am sure the gun will shoot into an inch. The serial number is K208***, for you guys who like details. Before the frosting on the barrel, this gun was flat mint. I am shooting Fiocci wadcutter ammo by the way.

Very nice gun! Congratulations! I'm glad to hear you're shooting it. No need for us to kick around the collector / shooter viewpoints. It's just great that you're enjoying it.

I bought a 16-2 a few years ago. One of our club members passed and the revolver became available. Definitely a you snooze, you lose situation. Bittersweet, but thankfully, I was wide awake. Yes, it had been shot a bit and I continue that practice. There's something "just right" about a K32 that doesn't exist with my K22 and K38. Sorta like Goldilocks and the Three Bears - it's just right!
