Is This the Best Little Winter Coat Pocket Revolver?
Well, no, of course it isn't for everyone. But for me this winter, it's served that purpose extremely well.
I bought this little gun back in November of last year. It shipped in September of 1952.
I bought it for the express purpose of simply dropping it into a winter coat pocket and carrying it on my hikes.
Funny thing is, I didn't know it was a Baby Chief until someone told me. Which shows how much I don't know about these little guns. All I knew about it was that it felt really small in my hand. This one's a numbers-matching gun, even the stocks.
It's seen some carry use, obviously. Got some high edge wear and some scratches. No rust, though, and the chambers and bore are in excellent shape. Someone did a good job bobbing the hammer, too. I like old Smiths that look as if they've actually done something in their lifetime. I don't own any new pretty boy guns. It's crossed my mind to find a period-correct hammer for it, but then I think "why bother".
I've never been all that good at shooting little guns like this, but it shoots great at the distances it's designed for. It's a great little backup gun.
Here's a few photos. They'll enlarge if you click on them.

First off, you take great pictures.
I love shooting little guns. I have a 640-1 that I enjoy shooting .357 Magnums.
I also have a 60-14 that I never have shot but I'm looking forward to it.
I smile and sometimes even chuckle when I let the magnums rip from my 640-1.
Its a nasty little gun.

That is a most excellent little revolver. Makes me want to take my Model 36 to the range, or for a walk.
Someone mentioned magnums. My Taurus 605 is fun to shoot with 110 grain 357's.

Good looking working gun.
Wear and scratches such as that are like calluses on a working man's hands. They say volumes about the man

I like it! Thanks for posting the neat pics. I can see why you'd like to carry it.

Dandy gun! I always wonder if some of these guns were intentionally bobbed … or accidentally bobbed when dropped. Don't ask me how I know
