Default 1950 Military

Here are a couple photographs of a 1950 Military model that has come to live with my other ACP revolvers.

Made before model numbers so after 1950 and before 1957. Not a birth year revolver but at least made in a year I had a birthday.

Sometimes you gotta find your birth year revolver. As soon as I saw a model of 1988 I had to have one which left me with a debilitating addiction to moon clip revolvers.

I like the front sight. Much easier to see than the half moon.

These are great guns. Arguably one of the best combat revolvers ever made. There are a lot of these in the S92000 range. Not that many of them around, especially the model 22 versions.

I have S1098xx which shipped in August, 1954, however, it is not in nearly as nice a shape as yours. You jost don't see that many 1950 Armies around. Congrats. Now you need a 1950 45 Target and and '55 target just to keep him company if you don't arlready have them.

I found this one at a gun show a couple of years ago. It is in the high S92,000 serial number range and shipped in June, 1952. A friend of mine called it a "bohunk revolver".

Looking at the serial number in the third picture, it was made 1952-1953.

I bought this one some 25 years ago. Close to your number and shipped in 1953.

No, but I have dryfired it to refamiliarize myself with the short action. Got some cast reloads ready to go. Just need to squeeze in a half hour to get it out shooting.

Thank you again.

Kevin

ps. My mistake, I did not have a birthday in that year.

I took the 1950 and the 1917 out shooting today. Each got 30 rounds of 240 LSWC over the standard dose of Bullseye. Both shot well at 25 and 50 yards.

He must have held "Bohunks" in high regard. That is a beautiful gun.

My "Pre 22, SN 86198, wearing non-original grips. Throwing in my Pre 26, SN 79335, appearing all original!
Thanks for an interesting Thread and some quite nice Smiths!
Best!

Nice revolver. Too bad the front sight was butchered.

So good they almost make you wanna go looking for trouble!

Someone commented on the "butchered" front sight.
How do you like it at the range?
I recently shot my USFA SAA at an uncovered outdoor range at my usual 50 yd distance. It has the usual curved profile SAA front sight. The sun was starting to go down, and after changing my targets, I was surprised to see my offhand groups stay about the same size but with a much higher point of impact.

The front sight on the OP's 1950 reminds me of the Colt New Service "shark tooth" sight. Sometimes functionality comes first!

Jim,

The sights on the 1950 are much easier to see than on the 1917. Groups were about the same but acquisition was much easier. The skinny sights (1917) made me concentrate more, not a bad thing. Instinctive shooting was the same with both. But for long range, give me the visible sights.

I am considering adding a gold or ivory dot to the 1950.

And a photograph of the sight in question.

My 1950 Army is also in the 92,000 range. I actually carried it on duty for a few years after my old 1917 got retired. I changed out the grips, hammer and trigger for on duty carry, but I kept the originals, so I can restore it back to original specs one day. Excellent revolver.

What brand, model and barrel length holster do you use for duty use?
