I know that Vapor Barrier Paper is used to wrap guns from storage. Is there any need or benefit to lay your S&W Revolvers on this paper inside a gun safe? I ask because I see so many guns for sale that the blue is trashed on one side from being stored.

My Gun Safe is an older Sentry with a felt covered (factory) shelf. Would freezer paper serve the same purpose or is anything even needed / recommended?

Personally, I think that allowing your firearms to "breathe" is the best way to prevent rust and discoloration. For my pistols and revolvers, I use plastic-coated wire under-the shelf hangers from Gun Storage Solutions, as well as Versatile Rack Co. plastic-coated multi-gun racks which allow the guns to sit upright (or upside down) in the racks, keep them separated from each other so they don't bang into each other, and allow air to circulate. The racks come in various sizes (4 guns, 6 guns, etc.) so you can vary the racks to fit your safe. The under-the-shelf hangers fit on any shelves, and the guns' barrels slide over the rods. For my long guns, I just use the carpet-covered racks in my safe. I've never had a problem, and I'm down here in hot, humid Florida.

Vapor barrier paper is usually used to wrap guns/parts for storage or shipping to prevent humidity from doing its dirty deed. I do not see any benefit to using it as a shelf liner. I do although like to control to some degree what is against my guns. I never store in a holster, and I do line many of my surfaces with a layer of waxed craft paper. That, and normal waxing or oiling of the piece in question, and humidity control has served me well for decades.

I double wrap all mine and keep them in pistol rugs.

I shoot mine it is just the thought of the felt wicking off the oil and then looking like a holster stored gun. I think I will line the shelf with freezer paper with the waxy side up.

I think your demographics play a large part in how you store your guns.

My sister lives in Oregon and humidity is a huge problem for them.
I know that they have some kind of discussant in their gun safe that
they remove and bake in the oven on a regular basis. If i remember
correctly they also have something else that they use to keep humidity at bay.

Here in Utah humidity is not a problem and S&W vapor barrier paper is good inexpensive added protection.

The paper protects by releasing an impregnated vapor phase corrosion inhibitor (VPI). The vapor actually coats the metal, but is not permanent.

Best corrosion prevention is to keep relative humidity low where guns are stored, below 50%.

I just use waxed paper. Triple up the thickness if you have to. It is cheap and works fine.
Save it when your done with it. It makes a great campfire starter.

Does anyone know where to get the type of VPI paper that S&W uses? For some reason, I thought S&W used to sell it years ago, and I could call, but thought I would ask here.
