Smile A Rare 44 Magnum

There are seventeen known 44 Magnums with a 5-screw frame and nickel finish (fewer than ten have been actually reported by collectors). Seven have a 4-inch barrel. The 44 Magnum shown below, S154515, was shipped on March 25, 1957 to Olympic Wholesale in Los Angeles. Click on the photo for a better look.

Thank you for posting this and for including a scrumptious photograph. For most of us this image is as close as we'll ever get to seeing the real thing up close and personal. What a magnificent revolver!

Default A Nickle for your Thoughts

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing a Picture and telling
us about that Rare 44Rem Mag. I'll be on the look out for
one now.

Man if that was mine, it would probably reside in my Revolver
Range Bag, or at least in the Rotation to be shot.

Sort a looks like my Mountain Guns. They must be Descendants.
They seem to be harder and harder to find also, getting Rare.

Thanks again. The Best to you and your Endeavors.

A 5 screw .44 Magnum. Nickel finish. Color case hardened hammer and trigger. Blued front & rear sights. Goncalo Alves Cokes.
You wonder if S&W had an art department that came up with the cosmetic combinations like those that resulted in something with a visual impact that the whole is greater that the sum of the parts when it was put into a shipping box. It's like magic sometimes.

That’s just plain beautiful, in my opinion... rare, or not!
The rarity aspect makes it even more special.

Thank you sir, for sharing and for furthering my S&W education!

I have not shot the 44 Magnum, but it was sold by Olympic Wholesale to The Micro-Sight Company in San Francisco and purchased in April 1957 by a physician who shot it quite a bit. I wouldn't have any reservations about shooting it, but I have other 44 Magnums I shoot on a regular basis. My favorite barrel length to shoot is 8 3/8-inch.

Yes it is. For more reasons than one. Me thinks I remember. Oh yeah seems like about June of 2011 a topic about this very same gun came up. Only the OP wasn't the proud owner but should have been.
For the record I was party to the entire thing.

Beautiful gun. I have a 1 of 6 1911. It was a run done by Nighthawk. They did a commemoration run 1-100 and of the 100 6 where never fully finished and i got 1 of those 6. Its a jeff cooper guns and ammo gun they did not roll mark. Maybe one day it will be something.
